Jalen Rose: Michael Jordan will play in a Bobcats game this season

Former NBA player and current media personality Jalen Rose predicted in a video posted Thursday that Michael Jordan will relinquish his duties as owner of the Bobcats and suit up for Charlotte for one game this season.

Bill Simmons, founder of the Grantland website that posted the video, was co-hosting an NBA preview series with Rose when Rose made the prediction. Simmons alluded to the fact that Rose has been correct in the past with his bold predictions; Rose had previously said James Harden would get traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder after the 2011-2012 season.

SI NOW: Could Michael Jordan still play in the NBA?

If Rose is correct and the league somehow allows Jordan to make the transition, if only for one game, it would mark the first time in NBA history that an owner steped down to play in a game. The Bobcats, who are changing their name back to the Hornets beginning in the 2014-15 season, believe they have improved over the offseason from a 21-61 record that placed them second-to-last in the Eastern Conference last season. Charlotte upgraded its front court with the offseason acquisition of Al Jefferson from the Utah Jazz and the selection of big man Cody Zeller with the No. 4 pick in this year’s draft. Still, as SI.com’s Rob Mahoney points out, there’s “not a chance” Rose is correct with his recent prediction about a 50-year-old MJ lacing up his Jordans for the Bobcats this season.

Then again, if there ever was a time that Jordan would return to the game after retiring in 2003, this season would be it; at the end of his 2009 Hall of Fame acceptance speech, he said people shouldn’t laugh if he returns to the game at 50:

“One day you might look up and see me playing the game at 50. Oh don’t laugh. Never say never. Because limits, like fears, are often just an illusion.”

Predicting James Harden to be traded wasn't a bold prediction

Well, it's not unprecedented, given that Mario Lemieux did so in the NHL. I'd question his ability to compete, however. He's 50 years old. Pro athletes don't play at 50 years old any more.

Michael Jordan's a mook and a buffoon.

I lost all respect for this guy when he thought it was funny that he tried to take Kobe Bryant out of a playoff game by sticking his foot under Bryant's when Kobe jumped for a shot.  He seems to think injuring another player and risking their career is funny.

I don't see how this guy still has a job.

Why one game?  If he does well let him play for as many games as he wants.  That team is unwatchable now.  With Jordan in there I'd watch.

This would be great.  Get Jordan to relinquish ownership and when he tries to buy his stake back...laugh in his face.  Now where have I seen that happen before?

@DavidBurgess i don't know remember magic and all but he just can't do it the way we remember i rather not see the icon tarnished meself...he would be more like a young Kurt Rhambis out there at this point then the "air" that made me believe in a human's ability...

@DBLETAP I can't see the correlation between the two. He tried to get an edge on Kobe, which somehow diminishes his speaking and analysis abilities on t.v.?
