Report: Yankees set to offer Joe Girardi a new deal
The New York Yankees are set to offer manager Joe Girardi a new contract this week as there has been speculation that other teams are interested in Girardi’s services.
According to ESPN.com, Girardi’s deal ends Oct. 31 and the team has not giving Girardi permission to talk to other teams.
In six seasons with the Yankees, Girardi has a 972-564 record with one American League pennant and one World Series championship.
Yankees general manager Brian Cashman declined to say if he would let Girardi talk to other teams, including the Chicago Cubs.
“He is obviously under contract,” Cashman said. “And we have an interest in clearly trying to keep him. We are going to give him a real good reason to stay and he has earned that through his six years. I think he likes it here.”
