The Oakland Raiders-San Diego Chargers game has been moved to 11:35 p.m. ET next Sunday due to the MLB playoffs, according to a report from ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter.

The Chargers and Raiders were set to kick off at 4:25 p.m. ET.  The shift is a result of the Oakland Athletics hosting the Detroit Tigers in an evening game on Saturday. It takes almost 24 hours to shift the O.co Coliseum from baseball to football.

the east coast just thinks their better than everyone else.... I'm a chiefs fan from good ole' KC so this matters to me! i hate the raiders with a passion but if they can win this game all it means is we're that much closer to a division title and thats music to my ears, also philip rivers is a cry baby, not to say hes not a good QB but he does complain alot.. and with their defenses best 2 players out i actually think the raiders have a fighting chance.

I promise you, this is not the end of the world. This used to happen all the time in shared stadiums. The NFL used to have to account for this when scheduling home games. They don't do that anymore simply because this is literally the only way it can happen anymore - with the A's making the playoffs. I hope the A's go at least to Game 7 of the world series and gives the NFL a migraine until November.

Smart thing would have been for the NFL to move this Sunday's Raider game to San Diego and then the later game be played in Oakland.    This is a division opponent and it could have been done easier.   Due to the switch it would be OK to suspend the blackout rule due to the short notice for one week in the Sad Diego market.

This is an attention getting stunt by Raiders ownership to push for a new stadium. "We have to play late at night because our stadium is antiquated. Boo hoo. Give us a tax break." Bud Adams pulled the same thing in Houston. Making a big deal about the stadium being unfit and canceling a game. It worked for him.

Nah, this is just part of the NFL's devious plan to expand into Europe.

With a kick-off at 5:35 AM CET, there's a possibility that small children might accidentally stumble across a live viewing of the game while searching for Dora and become fixated with the game's glorious violence.

No worries.  Its not like it is the Raiders against the Patriots.  It is two CA teams facing off.  Everyone out here will still be awake at 8:35.

If I were a Raiders season ticket holder I would demand a refund on the tickets for that game. There is a huge difference between an early Sunday afternoon game and one that starts at 8:30 on a work night. And I sure wouldn't want to be in Oakland at midnight. Nothing good happens there that late.

What a stupid article.  Two west coast teams playing a late game... Why would anyone on the East Coast care?

Whoa, everybody.  11:35 PM Eastern time is 8:35 PM local time.  Who on the East Coast is really going to care about this game -- I mean, seriously?

The Raiders have played at Cal-Berkeley's Memorial Stadium in the past (70's) when there was a conflict.

Why not play the game at AT&T in SF?  I hear that it's primary tenant is done for the season...

that place is not fit for football games anyhow - they should just cancel the game and give the chargers the win.

Why dont they just start the baseball game earlier on Saturday?   WTF?  Who gives a crap about baseball anyway?  And why does Baseball take priority?

it's just Staples Center two years ago converting from Lakers to Kings to Clippers to Lakers to Kings in only five days; just in a much bigger building. The grounds crew in Oakland have had to switch from football to baseball in less than a day before and that never seemed to get any attention because baseball is smart enough to schedule most of their weekday games at night.

@TwitSpif you know that sewage frequently backs up in the lockers rooms in this stadium and players have to walk through excrement right? I mean the Colesium is horrid and befits the city of Oakland nicely, but please. the building's literally falling apart. no stunts are needed.

@heardhimsay I'm a Raider fan in Toronto, so to me it'd matter. But I'm also an A's fan so I understand. Playoffs always trump regular season.

@Chris8 It might come as a shock to you but not everyone reading this article lives on the East coast.

@MidwestGolfFan Sports does not revolve around the East Coast teams and the Chargers/Raiders have fans every where.  It matters because people might want to watch the game.  Any significant time change in an NFL game start time is news worthy.

@tfaw Some people think the Chargers are not fit for football games, either.

@asterism1 Last time I checked baseball playoffs will trump a football game.

@asterism1 because its the PLAYOFFS!!!! Turn the game on this weekend you will see how much people care about it.

@asterism1 Television networks have paid a truckload of money to broadcast the baseball playoffs. They make their advertising money (and get much better ratings) with prime time audiences, not with afternoon games. Deal with it.

@asterism1 Also, Oakland needs the A's more than the A's need Oakland.  I know their relocation attempts have been stalled lately, but Oakland will make every concession for the A's in hopes of keeping them in town.  It is always about the $$$$$.

@asterism1 Because its the Playoffs genius..and who gives a crap about the Raiders?

As a Raider fan, it pains me to say it... The A's are more relevant and vying for a championship while my Raiders march towards another losing season.. Thats why baseball in Oakland in taking front seat.

True, not everyone lives on the East Coast but surely those who don't wish they did...

@Ray1950 @MidwestGolfFan

My point exactly.  This is a West Coast game being played at a reasonable local time, between two franchises the East Coast seems to find uninteresting.

@SARDiver @tfaw Did you really say that??  I guess you must have missed the Raiders the last decade or so.

@MidwestGolfFan @Ray1950 I am at a lost for why you think the entire universe exists on the east coast and why you would not consider that fact that you have transplants and others that care about the game there?

Ray1950
Ray1950

@MidwestGolfFan @Ray1950 My point exactly. If you live on the West coast, you're expecting a 1:25 start so a start coming 7 hours later is inconvenient to fans who might have planned to attend. That makes this story relevant, regardless of where you live. For the record, I have no interest in the Raiders but I have always enjoyed watching the Chargers. I live in New England so they're obviously not my favorite team but I still enjoy watching them.
