Jaguars have reportedly used ball boys, equipment assistants as scout team WRs

With just four healthy receivers heading into Sunday’s game against the Colts, the Jacksonville Jaguars have been forced to dig even further down the depth chart for their scout team fill-ins — all the way down to the ball boys and equipment assistants.

That’s who has been substituting at wide receiver for the scout team, according to ESPN.com’s Michael DiRocco.

The Jaguars have since disputed the report on their Twitter account after NFL on Fox tweeted a link of it.

Three of the Jags top receivers are out this week: Justin Blackmon, their fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft, is serving the final week of his four-game suspension for a substance abuse violation related to an offseason DUI arrest, while Mike Brown and Stephen Burton are nursing injuries.

The team will have to clear practice squad players Jeremy Ebert and Tobias Palmer through waivers so they can play on Sunday, joining second-year receiver Cecil Shorts and rookie Ace Sanders.

From ESPN.com:

“Those guys become very realistic guys that could be active so [general manager] Dave [Caldwell] and I will have to talk about that,” coach Gus Bradley said after Thursday’s practice. “That would require some changes and things like that so we’ll discuss what we need to do, but those guys got a lot of reps today. That’s what you have a practice squad for, so you can develop guys through it for opportunities like this.”

Big deal. The Rams are using ball boys as starting receivers.

How about...Tebow?  Or is he still holding out for a QB gig?

Not surprisingly, the Teblows Kool Aid drinkers are out in full force.

We suck.  We know that.  This was a lost season anyway.  JDR decimated this franchise with bad picks, bad releases, bad coaching.  Is Bradley going to help?  Who knows?  But for us loyal fans, the pain will continue through this season, and possibly beyond.

Teboohoohoo isn't in the NFL anymore because he sucks.  Like, really bad.  I mean, dude couldn't even supplant Mark freakin' Sanchez in NY!  He went 1-for-7 for -1 yards in the preseason against a bunch of guys who didn't even make NFL team rosters.  And you want to d@mn our franchise even more by signing that no-talent hack?  No thanks, pal.

The Jags are going to lose without Tebow, we know this. Very well could lose with him. But at least signing him would create interest and maybe sell tickets. Geez, you have nothing to lose, you might be the worst team ever.

And yet they have been able to achieve such incredible results. Pretty uniforms though!

I saw the Jags defense yesterday. None of them could cover a ball boy or an equipment assistant.

Now, if the Jags had used some of their players as ballboys and equipment managers THAT would have been newsworthy...

I hope the jags regular players are sweating hard about the possibility of siting in favor of a ball boy.  If that doesnt motivate them to play then they should just forfeit the season.

That's a pretty firm denial by Jacksonville, so it's probably not true.  Wonder who Fox's sources were.

Hey SI, are you this hard up for a story. Why don't you get some real reporters. Everything that is going on now and this is it for you guys.....underwhelming to say the least....

I'm sure this constitutes a news story to someone.

what's sad is that the ball boys were always open

Because if the Jags used better scout team WRs, they'd win more?

The Jags dont use ball boys as scout team WRs.  They only use ball boys as regular season QBs

Silly tweet by Fox. Like having ball boys or equipment assistants running routes would even be close to simulating NFL competition.

@JimTracy Tebow would get smashed back out of the NFL behind that nonexistent O-Line

Signing Tebow would accomplish one thing : getting smashed another week. They would really be ""stupid azzes" if they did that.

@therednorth1

Tweeter : The 21st tool of choice  for rumor mongers, narcissists and gossip addicts.

And it made the media "professionals"  even lazier. "Oh ! A juicy tweet ! Great ! Copy. Paste. Two line intro. My job's done here !  Let's have one at the pub !!"

Never pay attention to anything sent on Tweeter.

@Whatever Well, if other teams used ball boys or equipment managers, that would be pretty close to simulating the Jags...
