When a baseball team announces that are going have a bobblehead night in anticipation of a nice crowd and to honor a future Hall of Famer, they better make sure that the bobbleheads show up.

The New York Yankees found out the hard way on Tuesday night when they were honoring retiring closer Mariano Rivera by having his bobblehead night.

The only problem….the bobbleheads were no where to be found when the game started.

The team later announced that the first 18,000 fans to enter Yankee Stadium tonight “would receive vouchers that can be redeemed for a Mariano Rivera bobblehead.”

According to MLB.com, the bobbleheads arrived in the third inning and by the picture above, the fans were clamoring for them.

The night continued to get worse for the Yankees as they lost 7-0 to the Rays, further crushing their hopes for a wild-card berth.

Next step to ebay to make some money selling the bobblehead.

Man, that's got to stink for the Yankees to look up in the standings and see a team (Tampa) with a 57 million dollar payroll probably getting in as a wild card, and the Yanks 229 million payroll watching the playoffs from home.

Amazing how 3 of the 5 bottom payrolls in the majors will make the playoffs Pittsburgh 66 million and Oakland at 68 million.

All 3 don't add ups to the Yanks payroll, and they are in the post season.  lol

Keep your bobble heads.

Why am I not surprised that Yankee fans waited in line for a trinket?

the way they fell behind this year, shouldn't be a surprise

They should have just given away some the many useless items Mariano has received on his endless farewell tour instead

@Bostonfan I actually agree with you, but he does have the right to appeal. My only question is why it takes so long for an appeal like this..

@j7apple - Oh yea it's really annoying them, what with all the YES money, WFAN money, merchandise money, etc...etc... it really stinks for the multi-billion dollar club...yup.

@WHO*IS*ESPN Moron..the core of the team was hurt most of the year and they stuck in there the whole season..winning record. Is this idiot day? Too many on here already..

Another butt hurt Yankee fan making excuses for this year.  Every team has injuries.  When you have a bunch of older players then there is a greater chance of injury.  That's the risk that Cashman took and the Yankees paid the price for it.  So don't make excuses for injuries.  All the guys that got hurt (Jeter, Granderson, Teixeira, A-Rod, Youk, etc.) were over 30 years old.  That's on the Yankees, not "bad luck".

@salvaje50 - not for nothing, but if you are a TRUE baseball fan then you would know your comment lacks common sense.  Many of the players were injured by pitchers that hit them with the pitched ball.  It wouldn't matter if they were 19 years old or fifty years old when being struck by a ball thrown in the 90's or thereabouts.....smh.

@salvaje50 And who's "Butt-Hurt"? Besides you that is, but what you do in your own personal time is your business.. I totally understand what they are trying to do and will be patient with the Yankees for this and next year, which is what a real fan will do.

Again Moron...the whole team has been hurt all year, but yet are still in the Playoff mix with a  winning record. And I'm sure you won't name your favorite team though, which hasn't won anything in decades..but let me guess, you'll say the Red Sox or Cardinals or someother winning bandwagon team, right? The payroll might be $220 million, but the Yankees make over a BILLION dollars a year and if you don't think they will be back on top in 2015 (when they can spend again- they are trying to get under the $188 Million in payroll to avoid a huge luxary tax so your team can pocket the money) then you are really a moron, but you already knew that.

Not at all, just can't stand you uneducated ignorant idiots babbling nonsense in here..obviously you haven't paid attention to the Yankees or you would know that all the key guys were hurt most of the year, buy yet are still in the Playoff mix with a winning record. And cashman didn't sign A-Fraud, Tex and Sabathia won a World Series for them in 2009 and the Yankees are worth more than a BILLION dollars a year..$220 million payroll is nothing for them. I'm sure you won't name you're favorite team, which probably hasn't won anything in decades... but let me guess, you'll say the Red Sox or Cardinals, right? Idiot.

@salvaje50 Agreed...229 million payroll ain't what it use to be....lol

@PAZSKY @speedbump25 The NL style.  Adding in the pitchers requires more strategy then just having a bunch of hitters swing away.
