Bears defensive tackle Henry Melton has torn his left ACL and is out for the season, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Melton planted his left leg awkwardly while he was rushing Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on a fourth-down pass attempt on Sunday night. Melton immediately fell to the turf and stayed down on the field for several minutes before being loaded onto a cart.

The loss of Melton could be a big blow to the Bears Cover-2 scheme, which thrives on his presence in the middle.

Melton had six sacks on his way to a Pro Bowl berth last year, and was anticipating unrestricted free agency after the 2013 season. He began 2013 playing under a one-year, $8.45 million franchise tender after hoping to receive a long-term deal with the Bears.

Hate to see a guy go down for the year, even a guy who plays for a hated division rival. Lions just lost FA Jason Jones with a torn patellar tendon. Chicago can bite me, but feeling their pain.

Roger God-dell wants an 18 game schedule?  There may be no players left after Week 12.  Couple that with the fact that parents aren't letting their kids play FB anymore.  The future doesn't look very bright for the NFL.

I don't understand how so many players can be so brittle when the CBA prevents them from having full padded practices every single day, I think 2 a days are no more, and hardly any of the starters play in the preseason. Nothing can prevent an ACL from happening ,just unfortunate. You can clearly see the huge impact these season ending injuries have on teams as they try to replace starters. It could almost cost the entire season...just ask Pittsburgh if they miss Pouncey.

Man, is it me or are players dropping like flies this season?  It seems that every week more and more players are lost for the season.  It seems higher for some reason so far.
