Report: Aldon Smith expected to miss one month while in rehab
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith is expected to miss about a month while he seeks treatment at a rehab facility after he was arrested Friday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday that Smith checked into a rehab center on Monday and was placed on the non-football injury list by the 49ers. The team does not plan to reactivate him until he is cleared by doctors.
“Aldon Smith is taking a leave of absence to address a personal matter,” general manager Trent Baalke said in a statement, according to NFL.com. “The 49ers’ organization both respects and supports Aldon’s decision and commends him for taking responsibility for his actions. The long-term well-being of our players is paramount and we will stand by Aldon as he works toward addressing this issue.”
The 49ers announced Sunday that Smith would take an “indefinite” leave while addressing personal problems. They made the announcement after he played extensively against the Indianapolis Colts, registering five tackles in the 49ers’ loss.
On Friday morning, Smith was arrested for suspicion of DUI after crashing into a tree and registering a .15 blood alcohol level. It was his second DUI arrest in less than two years.
