The Browns have traded former first-round pick Trent Richardson to the Colts for a first-round pick, as first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The Colts confirmed the trade.

Cleveland selected Richardson out of Alabama with the third overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Richardson rushed for 950 yards and a Browns rookie record-tying nine touchdowns last season.

Colts owner Jim Irsay stoked media interest Wednesday afternoon when he teased a blockbuster trade via Twitter.

How screwed up are you on an operational-philisophical level when you decline to trade up for RGIII--despite having the ammo to do so--but trade up for a running back, and then give up on him for nominal value after eighteen games? There's a reason why some teams get trapped in rebuild stasis.

I don't think I've ever heard of anything that says desperate any more than this.

I dont think Indy will be so bad as to have a shot at a top qb unless one drops

@Jfral No, that's why the previous owner and previous management are no longer there. The Browns know they need a franchise QB, and getting an additional first round pick in next year's QB rich draft is a very smart move, especially for a running back who has been injured and when you can get a running back anytime in the draft or free agency.

Frankly it's the Colts who have overpaid.

@kevin10797 Couldn't agree more. You spend a 3rd overall pick on a RB (dumb idea) then trade him away 18 games later for a mid-teens pick? WTF! Throw in the Weeden trade-up and that may be the worst draft since the Ricky Williams debacle... At least the Colts' didn't give up EVERY pick next year.

@The5wineFlu Then you're an idiot. This is a brilliant move for the Browns. Most teams won't even draft a RB in the first round anymore, and here the Colts just traded a first round pick for an average RB  with only a couple of years left on his contract.

@Skins'Fan @kevin10797 The Browns are LUCKY to get a first round pick for Richardson. Indy WAY overpaid.

It's a smart move for the Browns -- get a first round pick and get your franchise QB next year.
