New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola will not have sports hernia surgery and could be back in a few weeks, reports The Boston Herald‘s Karen Guregian on Twitter.

Amendola missed New England’s Week 2 game with the Jets because of an injured groin, and reports said he might need the surgery. That led to speculation that Amendola would miss a significant portion of the season. But with the latest report, his return to New England’s offense looks like it will happen sooner than expected.

Amendola had aggravated the injury during the season opener. He was signed in the offseason to replace Wes Welker and did well in Week 1. He caught 10 passes for 104 yards, including several key receptions down the stretch.

BURKE: Should New England risk bringing back a recovering Rob Gronkowski in Week 3?

But Amendola’s injury history was one of the main concerns about him during free agency. The Patriots offense has struggled in their first two games. Amendola’s return will give Tom Brady back one of his only proven receivers.

How is Amendola feeling now? Its a quite sure thing that hernia surgery will make him out of the game for a while. Its really pathetic to hear this news. My prayers for his well being.

Sorry to hear Amendola is hurt.  However, why is this news?  The guy has NEVER been healthy for longer than a few weeks at a time.  NE completely outsmarted itself by letting Welker go for a couple million less in salary - for a guy who plays no more than 60% of the time.  NE will get what they deserve this year.
