Nebraska Cornhuskers fans are restless these days despite some moderate success over the last few seasons.

They certainly won’t be happy about a recording that posted on Deadspin, in which Nebraska head coach Bo Pelini said he didn’t care what the fans think.

Nebraska is coming off a 41-21 home loss to UCLA on Saturday, where the Bruins scored the last 38 points of the game.

In the 2011 recording, Pelini, who has been Nebraska’s coach since 2008 and has an overall record of 51-21, shows his fondness for the F-Word.

“It took everything in my power to not say, ‘F*** you, fans. F*** all of you.’ F*** ‘em.”

“Our crowd. What a bunch of f***ing fair-weather f***ing—they can all kiss my ass out the f***ing door. ‘Cause the day is f***ing coming now. We’ll see what they can do when I’m f***ing gone. I’m so f***ing pissed off.”

Pelini later apologized for those comments.

“I want to sincerely apologize for my comments from two years ago which became public today,” he said in a statement. I take full responsibility for these comments.  They were spoken in a private room following the Ohio State game. I was venting following a series of emotional events which led to this moment.”

“That being said, these comments are in no way indicative of my true feelings.  I love it here in Nebraska.  I again apologize to anyone whom I have offended.”

Despite the apology, Nebraska’s top administrators had plenty to say about Pelini’s rant.

“I am aware of the publication of Coach Pelini’s comments, I am disappointed and in discussions with Shawn Eichorst about addressing the issue,” Nebraska Chancellor Harvey Perlman said.

“I am disheartened and disappointed by the 2011 comments published today attributed to Coach Pelini about our dedicated and passionate fans and supporters,” said Nebraska athletic director Shawn Eichorst said. “I have spoken with Chancellor Perlman and I have addressed the situation with Bo and expressed our deep concern.”

what was the context for his remarks? something must have happened specifically to piss him off like that.

In Nebraska it only requires one person to know about the recording. it is legal to record someone in this state as long as one person knows about it. ( including the person who is recording)

"...these comments are in no way indicative of my true feelings."

I'm no psychologist, but I don't f***ing believe you.

There's gotta be a f**king clause in Pellini's f**king contract that allows the f**kers at Nebraska to f**king fire his f**ked up a*s for doing something as f**king f**ked up as this.

"Kiss my a** out the f**king door", priceless. I cannot wait to see which one of his "confidants" in this private meeting taped it and waited for now to put it out.  I am betting Tommy Frazier was standing somewhere in the room.

How is that move to the Big Ten working out for ya Huskers? Nebraska thought they would own the relatively weak Big Ten, but it sure hasn't worked out that way. Fortunately for Bo they get a miss on Ohio State this season.

So you are telling me Pelini is a potty mouth with major anger issues...  I think you are a few years late with that news.

Bo Pelini is always "f***ing pissed off," so it seems.  Anger is not a coaching technique, Nebraska Board of Regents.

Why would a coach leave a quality program like Louisville for Nebraska?

Most Nebraska fans ultimately believe that the next coach has to be FROM Nebraska. I lived there. Nebraskans are so small minded it's comical. It's a wonder there are Christian Churches in Nebraska, given that Jesus wasn't from there...

"I apologize to anyone whom I've offended."

So Pellini is still not man enough to take responsibility and acknowledge that he did something really dumb, about his employers. Not a guy I'd want coaching my team, period.

Well, Nebraska, I will tell you how you improve a whole lot, real quick, but you have to decide whether you want to do it. His name is Bobby Petrino and he is coaching at Western Kentucky right now. You will see a three to four game improvement in the first year and will be a consistent winner after that. HOWEVER, there is some baggage that comes with him.

This is the reality for a coach that is on the way out. Every week there is a new distraction, in this case, something you said two years ago. Personally I think Pelini needs to go, he has no signature wins, just beats the creampuffs on the schedule and he has many humiliating losses. This is Nebraska, not Iowa State, expectations are a little higher.

Fire Pelini for the Nebraska fans being insulted

Wow....  what a classy coach.  I wonder if he realizes it's the fans that ultimately pay his paycheck one way or another.

This is a business.  I am sure Coach Pelini is a fine guy at home with his family, but bad for business.  And in fairness, in 2013 he seems a bit calmer.  The point is, as I have stated, fans are fickle.  Nebraska is not unique at all in this regard, it is a universal characteristic.  A very big part of a head coach's job is public relations, and it is clear Coach Pelini has been unaware of that part of the job.  No one in the administration nor the media is trying to force him out.  They all have jobs to do as well.  In fact, his railing against the Omaha World Herald is just silly.  That newspaper is such a "homer" newspaper that it is surprising the Huskers need to do any PR.  The World Herald bends over backwards to make the Huskers look great.  As to the administration, I would say they have been fairly long-suffering.  I am sure Coach Pelini will land on his feet and continue to have a career in football.  I wish him well.  I guess I am not a rabid enough Huskers fan to really get too worked up, but it is clear the Pelini era is coming to an end.

I'm glad he said it.

Many players and coaches in all sports feels the same way.

Maybe Bo can go be an assistant for his brother.

I'm sure there are plenty of coaches and players who have wanted to say the same thing at times.  Fans can be great, and they can be insufferable.  I don't blame him one bit for his feelings towards them.  But college coaches get paid big bucks.  And they really need to learn to keep their mouths shut, especially today when every second someone could, and likely is, keeping track of everything they say.

I'm sure it sucks sometimes, but the fact of the matter is you have to pander to, and spoil,  fans, whether they deserve it or not.

No matter what you're actually thinking, just say "We have the greatest fans in the world."

I'm not a big Nebraska fan, but their fans are some of the best there is. For him to rip them like that I believe Bo needs to go.

According to my sources, in 1973, Bo Pelini told his mother that she was ruining his life.  Can you believe that?  Just one more reason to fire a good coach for losing a dumb football game to a pretty good team.

Pelini should be fired for having one of the worst defenses in the country. They were terrible last year and appear to be even worse this year. I know never to say never but because of changing demographics I think Oklahoma and Nebraska days of dominance are over. They must of had the best recruiting network in the country! How have they been able to recruit players to the most remote campuses in the country?

This is a low blow, and cheap shot.  It is so obvious that the administration is trying to force him out.  Just fire him, if you don't like him.  No need to drag him through the mud.  Distasteful Nebraska. For shame.

I guarantee someone in that administration has been holding on to that card for a while.

I grew up in Nebraska, moved back to Nebraska after my service in the military.  What I learned living in 11 states is that sports fans of any stripe are fickle.  They love you when you when and boo you when you lose.  Well?  Get over it.  That is why BCS coaches make the big bucks.  Like it or not, Bo Pelini is a public figure.  No university president or professor or mayor of a city could get away with these kinds of comments made on a somewhat regular basis.  I am not condemning Bo Pelini here, so do not misunderstand.  My point is that dealing with the public and the media goes with the job.

@John3 It'll still work out pretty well for them considering they'll make more money in the Big Ten.  If you're going to suck, might as well do it in a conference that will net you some coin.

@John3

Now now....  let's not kick a team when they are down.  I however must agree with what you have stated, it does not look like the move to the Big 10 worked out the way nb hoped it would.  Still....  who knows what the future holds.  There are a lot of people wearing red that wish this was still the 90's.

@1oldsnowman Is that sarcasm?  Louisville's all time record is barely scraping over .500.  NO national championships and only 8 conference championships.  (5 of which were in the Missouri Valley Conference and Conference USA)  That is laughable compared to Nebraska.  Louisville is normally a middle of the pack team in a mediocre conference.  The past 5 seasons go

2008   5-7

2009   4-8

2010  7-6

2011  7-6

2012   11-2

One 10+ win season does not make you a quality program.  You think Bridgewater's are going to fall into your lap every other year?  Hell...Nebraska has won 10 games 3 times over the past 5 years and 9 in the other 2.  I'm no Nebraska fan but I get a kick out of people that think one or two good seasons (while playing maybe one or 2 good teams over the entire time period) suddenly puts you in the top tier of football programs.  They beat Florida last year.  Good for them.  The La. Lafayette Rajun Cajuns came pretty close to doing that as well, in Gainesville.

@muser Nebraskans like and want someone who will embrace a tradition that has been successful in the past.  Callahan came in and tried changing that all around.  Bo was not from Nebraska, but he did serve as a assistant coach, and understood the tradition.  To say that people from Nebraska only want a person from Nebraska is pretty naive and simple minded in itself.  We want to win.

TimHarb

@muser I would have to agree with ya there.  You get out side of Omaha it really starts to get small minded. Omaha isn't that far along but compared tot he rest of the state it is the Red Headed Step Child.

@6marK6 hmm 3 to 4 games.  Your saying the first year he would be trying to get into the new championship game since pellini has lost 4 each year.

@Cman - Good point.  Nebraska fans stick with their team no matter what.  They travel well and have continual sellouts since Kennedy was president (a trivia question in last weeks game).  I remember when Osborne was coach in the 80s, there was talk of discontentment.  It is going to happen.  Bo forgot that a passionate fan base is a good thing.

@ElvisHitler  Yeah cause Saban is just itching to leave Bama. As for Pederson, he's not leaving Boise State. His kid's got some sort of long term illness, with a top of the line medical center that specializes in that illness....right there in Boise. So is he gonna take the Nebraska job at the risk of his kid's health? I think not.

TimHarb
TimHarb

@Blinker @John3 They didn't leave to the Big 10 to own it.  They left the Big 12 because of Texas trying to move everything to Texas. Also many other reason including that the conference seemed really weak.

@Cool No place on earth is a closed to anything from the outside. Nebraskans would decline to breathe air unless they were sure that several other Nebraskans had endorsed the idea.

When Bo goes there will be a mess. That's not a top 25 job anymore and with a segment of fans insisting on hiring from .006 of the population...

@muser @Cool Apparently I have to type slower so that you can keep up with what I am saying.  Sorry you have a learning and reading disability.  No where has it been stated by any Nebraskan that the coach must be from Nebraska.. that was something your pea brain thought up.  If you want to have a rational debate, using actual facts and not those your pea brain conjures up, I will be happy to do so.   After I get done riding to town on my horse, and go to the bar and shoot up some indians, I will be ready to debate.. well after I plow the back 40... since that is all we do here in Nebraska .. and all of us think the same and do the same things.

@Richard--Ramirez He's had offers from bigger and more recently successful programs. To which he said no. Why in hell would he go to Nebraska.......
