Report: Broncos to reinstate suspended exec Matt Russell 60 days after DUI
Russell faced additional charges of having an open container of alcohol in his vehicle, careless driving resulting in injury and failure to display proof of insurance following an incident in Colorado in early July in which he hit a parked police vehicle at 40 mph.
His arrest came less than a month after director of pro personnel Tom Heckert was also charged with DUI.
The Broncos punished Russell — the No. 2 exec in their front office behind vice president of football operations John Elway — more severely than No. 3 exec Heckert, who received a month-long suspension, because his crime was more severe and he had met with the team about Heckert’s incident.
But, according to the ESPN report, “the Broncos are satisfied that Russell has met their requirements, though the team will be watching him closely.
