The NFL fined Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews  $15,000 for his hit Sunday on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, NFL.com reports.

Matthews hit Kaepernick out of bounds during the second quarter of  the team’s 34-28 loss and was flagged 15 yards.

49ers left tackle Joe Staley was also flagged when he took exception to the hit.

“I think that young man works very hard on being a tough guy,” 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh said Monday of Matthews. “He’ll have some repairing to do to his image after the slap.”

Matthews insisted that he is not a dirty player when asked about Harbaugh’s comments.

I think Clay should have paid an extra 10 and given him the Villapiano can opener.

NFL dropped the ball by not suspending him.

Hopefully justice is served and Matthews tears his acl this week. Kid is a punk with women's hair.

Is it any coincidence this guy "bulked" up during his time @ USC? He was skinny pencil neck geek in high school.

Cushing & Matthews, 2 biggest roid freaks in the league since Alzado & Gastineau.

So, when does he get a fine for throwing two punchslaps?  The NFL admitted that the personal foul call on Staley was incorrect, that Matthews should have drawn a second flag.  So where's the second fine?

Also, I saw the Carolina defender get ejected for throwing a single punch.  How did Matthews not get the same, and at least get the fine that should have gone with it?

It is about time Matthews got fined.  Now it is time to move on and let's see that the long hair is not really a dirty player.  Personally, I think he is.

The story is a little misleading. The slap Harbaugh is referring to occurred after the late hit, when there was a large scrum. I'm not sure what Staley did or said to draw a flag (I'm sure he did something to protect his QB), but when the camera found Mathews he was slapping at Staley's head and facemask with his hand, generally open. it was not a tough look for a NFL linebacker, but he should have been ejected nonetheless for going to the head. A ref was standing between them, but apparently couldn't see Matthews' slappy action. I'm sure Staley would have gotten into it more, but he was smart enough not to allow himself to be ejected from a big game..

Ummm how do you NOT think that's a dirty play Clay.?! He's so outta bounds he's almost in the parking lot. I've seen some tackles by clay that have been very dirty and hard. I'm glad he got the attention of the NFL.

This idiot heavy hair tried to say he wasn't a packers fan even though he spent the entire day (and following week) commenting on the 49ers Green bay game.

NFL, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?!?!!?

Suh throws a low block and he gets $100,000, but Matthews talks about hitting Kaepernick before the game, then LAUNCHES himself at Kaepernick when he is clearly out of bounds, and THEN throws punches at Joe Staley?!?!? He should have been fined much, much more AND suspended for a game.

What a joke. Just come out and say that you won't punish your faces of the franchise. So much for protecting players, eh?

The HEAVY HAIR invites all opposing defenses to hit Kaepernick hard. Whether it is a late hit or not, NFL players have the HEAVY HAIR'S approval.

Ken_210 says Matthews had "intent" to hit Kaepernick. I think it's the defenses job to hit the guy with the ball. How stupid are you, man?

It's a shame he didn't smash Kaepernick's massive head into the ground. That would have been worth 15K

seriously?! 15K? the league must be kidding! For someone with intent and did the actual thing during the game, and he is just fined $15K?!

15k for the hit but what about the 2 punches he threw at Staley?

Matthews should have been suspended, this is ridiculous and he also has previous fines. NFL playing favorites again.

The HEAVY HAIR is more of a Packers fan than you'll ever be a fan of any team ever. This is a fact.

@aaronrodgersisnotamazing This is true, the late hit on Rodgers was bogus and they called some phantom penalty out of bounds as well.

Bears fans would know best.

More like fake, assigned name. The HEAVY HAIR'S real name happens to be HEAVY. Where do you come up with this garbage, man?

@HeavyHair The Heavy Hair fears Kaepernick being around in the playoffs because he knows that means the Packers will be 0-4 vs. the Niners and he will be weeping like a young girl. Heavy may deny that, if he wishes, but the fear in his eyes is clear for all to see.

But he wasn't because you suck, man.

The NFL likes to protect it's most storied franchise. Not that the Bears would know anything about that.

Did you even read his post, man? He said the refs bail the Packers out AT HOME. What part of this don't you comprehend?

Everyone wants to meet the HEAVY HAIR, so I don't blame you one bit.

@HeavyHair HeavyHair, do the world a favor and go play in traffic. Packers fans like you are a disgrace to humanity.

5 feet or 30 feet out of bounds, Matthews should have smashed his body into the turf harder. Seahawks > 49ers

@HeavyHair I had forte on my fantasy team last year and I might of posted to find out up dates that's all and if he played against the cheating packers

The HEAVY HAIR knows way more than you do, man. He's seen you post on Bears forums previously on ESPN. You are just incredibly dimwitted, you know?
