Red Sox to unveil Carl Yastrzemski statue
The Boston Red Sox will unveil a statue honoring Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski at Fenway Park on Sept. 22, the team announced (via CBSSports.com’s Mike Axisa).
The statue will recreate Yastrzemski’s final at-bat, when he tipped his hat to the crowd.
“This is quite an honor,” Yastrzemski said in the team’s news release. “To have a bronze statue at Fenway Park is something I never could have imagined, and I am very grateful to the Red Sox for this kind gesture.”
Yastrzemski spent his entire 23-year career with Boston. His 3,419 hits are still a team record. Yastrzemski won the American League MVP award in 1967, when he also won the Triple Crown.
