Players-only meeting? USC’s Lane Kiffin and Marqise Lee send mixed messages on what occurred

USC coach Lane Kiffin and wide receiver Marqise Lee initially offered different takes on whether a players-only meeting was held Sunday.

The Trojans lost 10-7 to Washington State on Saturday, and Lee said after the game that the players would have a meeting the next day.

Kiffin, who many believe is in jeopardy of losing his job if the team continues to struggle, said on Sunday and again on Tuesday that the meeting never took place.

But Lee said on Tuesday that Kiffin was wrong and that a meeting did occur, according to tweets by reporters who cover the team.

Lee tweeted on Wednesday morning that the meeting was just a typical gathering.

Lee’s tweet should end what looked like a public disagreement between two important members to the USC program. If the issue was really just a matter of semantics, then the meeting is a non-story.

But the miscommunication gave off the sense that Kiffin was disconnected from his team and one of his star players. It’s uncertain whether the incident reveals any underlying issues with the team, but Kiffin and Lee need to be on the same page for the Trojans to turn around their season.

It's a mute point now.  There's nothing more to see here.  Move along people.

Ah, those spoiled-rotten Angelinos: one loss (albeit a pathetic one) and the knives come out!  Get yourselves an NFL franchise if you need to piss&moan so badly!

Tweets by college athletes are more and more coming under the control of coaches.  My gut tells me that there was a certain player told what he could tweet, and what the content of the tweet would be.  Lane is the coach, and what ever he says its the word right now.

Life is tough this days at the University of Spoiled Children , whenever they are losing, animals will feed on each other. Lame Kiffen has to go, They had the chance to have a real coach this year and Haden blew it.

There was a meeting.  There wasn't a meeting.  There was a sort-of meeting.  Maybe there was a meeting.

No wonder they can't perform on the field, they can't even agree if they had a meeting.  Kiffin is a disaster, and while I have no love for USC I think they do deserve better.  I'm still trying to figure out why he keeps getting hired.  What has he actually done the warrants being a head coach at any program, let alone one the nation's traditional powerhouses.  He should probably be the defensive line coach at the University of Southern North Dakota at Hupple.  But then, I don't think that school has done anything bad enough to deserve him either.
