A man died at Candlestick Park after a fall before the San Francisco 49ers’ game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday, according to a report in the San Francisco Chronicle.

San Francisco police Officer Gordon Shyy told the Chronicle that a man in his 30s fell onto a sidewalk around the stadium and suffered serious injuries. Shyy told the paper that witnesses said the man appeared to be intoxicated. The fall happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. PT.

Police are withholding the identity of the man until his family can be notified of his death, according to the report.

Yes, but how the heck do you get THAT drunk BEFORE the game even starts. I understand tailgating, but really?

mind you it wasnt the fall that killed him but rather the sudden stop

I guess they are going to have to put 6' high safety walls in every stadium to protect these drunk fools.  I'm sorry the guy fell and died but please let it be a warning to future fans.  Don't drink and walk on elevated surfaces.

Thread prediction: Some people will blame alcohol. Some people will blame the absence of a safety fence. No one will blame the person for making a bad decision.

Sad. A person is dead and what you offer is a joke. The fact that houndstoothunderwear actually "liked" your comment attests to the sad state of affairs in our culture.

I only hope that you never have to deal with the untimely death of a loved one - especially a child.

@NickWright I for one won't blame the guy because people die from falls when they're stone-cold sober as well as intoxicated.

Chill out, it was a joke. Just remember you're in the comment section of SI.com...you're not going to find the best and brightest down here. The guy who fell was intoxicated and brought it upon himself - also, apparently he was trying to puke over the bleachers onto opposing fans and fell. Commenting on our culture as a whole based on one comment on SI is ludicrous; exactly what is the sad state of affairs right now? That someone laughed at a joke? EVERYONE deals with death in their life, and I'm almost certain Jerry has as well. Bringing the death of a child into the picture was random and irrelevant, and you're condescending tone is reaaaaally annoying. Just remember where you are before you try and go on a rant - and to be honest, I have no idea why this is news and on this website - a drunk guy caused his own death by falling off the bleachers...end of story. As sad as it is, there's still some comedic value somewhere in there - turn on any comedy show/stand up, the content is worse.
