New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he has signed legislation to expand Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, according to the Associated Press. The upgrades include a retractable roof to be built over the U.S. Open’s center court.

Cuomo said that the new legislation will create a 1-acre boundary expansion of the entirety of the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. The U.S. Tennis Association announced that Arthur Ashe Stadium, the U.S. Open’s center court, will be covered by the retractable roof no later than the 2017 U.S. Open tournament.

According to the Associated Press report, rain has pushed the men’s final from Sunday to Monday in each of the last five years. The expansion project will be paid for by the USTA and will also include more tennis courts, along with other general improvements.
