The Oakland Raiders will start Terrelle Pryor at quarterback on Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts, The San Francisco Chronicle’s Vic Tafur reported Monday night. Pryor will start over Matt Flynn.

For the Raiders, the move isn’t a big surprise. Pryor took snaps with the rest of the first team at practice Monday, according to Jerry McDonald of the Oakland Tribune. Flynn, who missed practice last week with a sore elbow, was back on the field Monday.

Head coach Dennis Allen has not officially named a starter, however. On Monday, he cited “competitive” reasons for withholding his choice.

Allen said throughout the preseason and training camp that he would choose the quarterback who he thinks can best move the team down the field and score points. Despite a rough preseason finale, Pryor was always thought to be the preferred starter.

Under Pryor, the Raiders’ offense scored 32 points on 14 drives. That compared with just 10 points on 13 drives this preseason for Flynn. Flynn played mostly with and against starters, while Pryor was in mostly with second-team players.

The biggest no brainer in the history of no brainers... It's not Pryor is going to rip up the league, but he's better than Flynn, Wilson, etc. etc. etc...

So happy Pryor gets his opportunity.

Raider fans need to be patient. Rebuilding the wreck Al Davis left behind isn't going to be a quick fix.

And with the first pick of the 2014 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select...

(Sigh)... I'm really at a loss for words as a Raiders fan.. I really dont see a light at the end of the tunnel.. This speaks to just how terrible Matt Flynn must really be... To lose his job to a guy who just learned the mechanics of being a QB in his second season in the NFL... I thought 2006 was bad I'm terrified about this season and how much more of a laughing stock my beloved team will become.

I think Al Davis would be so proud

@patolucas_J Other than being an entitled college athlete, what has he really done to deserve a chance over anyone else in the league?

@patolucas_J I thought the Sugar Bowl he shouldn't have been allowed to play in was a decent opportunity, all things considered

@JeffreyRayStone Davis? His legacy continues with Oakland. Look how the new GM managed to sign and pay 6.5 million for a backup QB (Flynn)  it just goes on and on....

@sunalsorises @patolucas_J Maybe he put in the work and has been the best QB in camp.   You know, like every other starter in the league has done.

@sunalsorises @patolucas_J are you a former walk-on that got made fun of by scholarship players? Are you possibly the pissed off math teacher from the movie 'The Program'?  Do you run a youth sports program where everybody gets a trophy? Are you trying intentionally to sound really stupid?

He hasn't done anything.  I'm a Raiders fan, and the kid has been our best option given our crappy situation for a while now. Coach Allen was slow to consider Terrelle Pryor as a legit option at QB. It often happens when there is a regime change.

Matt Leinart played over Pryor last season.  His opportunity should have come at that point.  If the coaching staff recognized that Pryor could start more quickly maybe they would have not wasted a 4th round pick on a QB, or maybe they wouldn't have spent 6 million on the other QB, Matt Flynn.

@biasedsportsfan @patolucas_J that's cool but I don't care about that I love the Raiders.  Matt Leinart played over Pryor at times last season.  I think he should have gotten his opportunity then

@j7apple @JeffreyRayStone ~ J7apple... Yup... Reggie has to eat the signing of Flynn... I hope he has some ketchup and a big glass of lemonade to wash it down.

@sunalsorises @patolucas_J I'd like to believe the coaches when they said that Leinart was their best option.  But these are the same guys that said the zone blocking scheme was the best option for the team.  We don't run zone blocking anymore.

They were scrambling unnecessarily.  No need to dig. Pryor was there the whole time.  Maybe they had to dig him up, BUT ONLY BECAUSE THEY HAD BURIED HIM THEMSELVES.

@patolucas_J @sunalsorises Maybe if Terrelle Pryor really was the best option at quarterback for the Raiders he would have earned the spot in practice over Matt Leinhart.  Instead, you have an organization scrambling to fill a position of need with whatever they can dig up, including Terrelle Pryor.  If you are saying he deserves to start because everyone else is terrible, sure, but I don't see how he deserves to start just because he is on the team.
