The Bengals and defensive tackle Geno Atkins have agreed on a five-year extension, according to the team. USA Today reports the deal is worth $55 million.

Atkins, a two-time Pro Bowler, set a team record with 12.5 sacks in 2012. His old contract was worth $1.4 million this season. He reportedly will now make $22 million in the first six months of the extension with $36 million in new money to be paid out in the first three years of the new deal.

The deal makes Atkins the NFL’s second-highest paid defensive tackle, behind Haloti Ngata of the Ravens who signed a 5-year, $61 million contract in 2011.
