New York Giants backup running back Andre Brown, who broke his left leg Thursday night in the fourth preseason game against the Patriots, is only expected to miss four to six weeks, Pro Football Talk reports.

Brown felt what he called a “little crack” in his leg — which he also broke last season — but won’t need surgery.

The three-year pro rushed for 385 yards and eight touchdowns on 73 carries before suffering the injury in late November against the Packers. He did not return.

Should the Giants choose to use the injured reserve/designated to return tag on Brown, he’d be eligible to come back after the eighth week (New York has a bye in Week 9). Second-year pro David Wilson will enter the season as the starter, with former Redskin Ryan Torain and Da’Rel Scott providing depth.
