Cincinnati Bengals defensive end DeQuin Evans has been suspended for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substances policy, the Bengals announced Friday.

Since this is Evans’ second violation of the league’s substances policy, the defensive end will be suspended eight games for using performance-enhancing drugs. Evans, 26, served a four-year ban while a part of the Bengals practice squad in 2011.

Evans appeared in all four of the Bengals’ preseason games, amassing three tackles and one stop on special teams. Evans would be eligible to return to the active roster on Oct. 28 after the Bengals play the New York Jets during Week 8. Since Evans has been suspended by the league, his roster spot will not count towards the Bengals 53-man roster. Evans was recently featured on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” series where Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer had been impressed by Evans’ play, saying he “loves” Evans.

The 26-year-old Evans, an undrafted rookie out of Kentucky, will be suspended without pay.

He is a fringe player. Without the PED's he would not be a fringe player.  He would be training camp fodder....maybe not even that.

I'll bet they cut him now.  Marginal players don't typically stick around when they get suspended for half the season.

P.S.  Proofreading for the win.  I don't think he was suspended for 4 years as the article suggests.

@Lizard_King I thought serving it all in one year was quite the accomplishment too!  lol

@KristianColasacco I have to agree with you from the numbers he put up for the pre season. He is not worth hanging on with the kind of headlines he brings to the ball club.
