Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips went off on a reporter before the team’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, after being unhappy about a tweet from a Cincinnati media member that pointed out his low career on-base percentage.

Phillips cursed out C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer after Rosecrans tweeted about the Reds lineup changes.

Phillips has an on-base percentage of .310 this season. Phillips is also hitting .264 with 16 home runs and his 95 RBI are third-most in the National League.

Here is how the exchange went, courtesy of ESPN Radio in St. Louis:

“Hey, Dusty. The (expletive) on the end, he worries about my on-base percentage. You tell him you’d have me bat eighth, he worried about my on-base percentage. The (expletive) over there. Make him happy, Dusty. The (expletive). You talking that negative (expletive) about our team, dog. I found out your Twitter name now, (expletive). It’s a wrap. Just so you (expletive) know. (Expletive).”

I dont like "datdude" anymore thatn most, and his obp does suck for someone at or near the top of the order. However, his rbi total, and his stellar defense make up for that. Not sure why either of these dingdongs need to worry about it.

It makes me laugh that narcissistic nerds are now declaring that they figured out baseball and how it should be properly run and have not one problem in labeling themselves as smart baseball people despite never getting on a high school baseball field and again have no problem calling a person with a baseball career that was below hall of fame level, played and learned from baseball royalty, won a world series mvp, coached many playoff teams, coachedteams that went to a lleague championship, coached a team that went to a world series, that man is the baseball moron.... Nerds next argument, well he never won a world series so my narcissistic self is smarter than him

Phillips has proven himself a jerk many times so some criticism is in order. However, notice how revengeful "sports journalists" get when they are criticized back. An athlete says something rude to a reporter and it's headline news. Who decides what is headline news? The reporters who like to dish it out but get all hot and bothered  when they're on the receiving end.

Phillips is a lazy bum, I'm a die hard Reds fan but I wish he would go away

He was probably out of line, but it is funny. Especially when many baseball players are overweight. At least you can see hes a big team guy! I am a Tigers fan from Ohio, but Go Reds for getting guys buying into their system and supporting this team in a very small market. Cinci baseball experience is second to none when attending in person.

another black pro who thinks the world is his and when it's pointed out he is "off" this year, he gets his feelings hurt.  so this (expletive) has to have his say the only way (expletive) know how.

Sure, he is having a bit of a down year, but he's got 95 RBI so he is doing something right. His defense is also great. I'd love to have him on my team.

Can't change the stripes on a zebra, Phillips has always been a jerk and that will never change.  I wish Molina would just punch him out some day.

Facts are oftentimes inconvenient things Brandon. And the fact of the matter is your on-base percentage is putrid. Deal with it.

Trade you Phillips for BJ Upton, straight up.

Strange, I didn't notice that the Reds were paying that reporter $14 million this year and $49,208,400 up to this point in his career, to post an on-base percentage that most minor league players can duplicate. In Phillips illustrious career he's had 5,532 plate appearancea and walked a grand total of 318 times -- 65 of those times he was hit by a pitch, so makes it even worse! Hey Brandon, instead ripping reporters for doing their jobs, why don't you start doing your and LEARN TO TAKE A PITCH.

His OBP sucks, and a reporter pointed it out, so he rips the reporter? Makes sense, no?

@WHO*IS*ESPN

Why did you insert "black" in there? There's plenty of dbag athletes who are white, hispanic, etc.
