Washington D.C. lost on its bid for the 2012 Olympic Games — which were staged in London — but is re-upping for 2024, aiming to raise $3 to $5 million to bid on the Olympic Games, the Washington Business Journal reports.

Hosting the Olympics would likely cost the city $4 to $6 billion. More from the report:

For the 2024 games, the U.S. Olympic Committee would be making a final decision about which American city to put up for the bid internationally in September 2015. The International Olympic Committee would choose the city for 2024 two years later, in 2017.

The bid will be a regional one that includes venues in Virginia and Maryland, including those in Baltimore, but the effort will have D.C.’s name on it, rather than the previous tandem effort, according to Sweeney.

Right now, the other cities expected to submit competitive bids include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Kansas City, Seattle, Minneapolis, Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Atlanta.

At least foreigners would be dying in an American (Democrat controlled) war zone instead of Americans dying in a foreign war zone....

The USA does not need to waste billions on the fiasco that the Olympics have become. If NBC wants a US Games - let them pay for it. The Olympics have become a travesty and in this age of constant International Competition - irrelevant. Pity the fools in a City subjected to this nonsense.

Maybe, like Berlin 1936, this is the United States' attempt to get noticed on the world stage just before they take over the globe and form a world government.

Worst city even for having any type of big event.  God forbid anything be in the downtown area.  There isn't anywhere to park now.  Imagine with all of the extra people...

What the hell is the attraction here? Is the olympics like one of those civic award scams local politicians get suckered into spending tax dollars on to make their egos feel good when they get to put up the little plaques at the city limits? Why would anyone want the olympic monstrosity within a thousand miles of their city?

It would probably also set a new record, into the stratosphere, for security spending.  DC + Olympics?  Good luck with that.

Toronto where I live is probably also bidding, might win because we've lost so many times lol.
