Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Brian Wilson, whose beard became famous during his time with the Giants, has been offered $1 million to shave it off.

On Tuesday, RadarOnline.com reported the offer from 800Razors.com (via CBSSports.com’s Mike Axisa).

From the RadarOnline report:

“His management feels we need to match his present salary of $1 million at a minimum,” said 800Razors.com co-founder and president Philip Masiello. “The discussions commenced Friday and are continuing.”

On Thursday, Wilson made his first appearance in the major leagues since April 2012. He was a a three-time All-Star with the San Francisco Giants but missed nearly all of last season and the beginning of this year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The Dodgers signed Wilson in late July and activated him earlier this week.

His management should bow and feel lucky enough someone took a chance on this guy.  But we're over that stupid arm cross move after he saves a game.

Phiip Masiello of 800Razors.com . I will never buy your products for pulling this stupid stunt and hope everyone else does the same. Why don't you put your money to good use and put some poor smart kids through college instead. That will make you a real hero.

this is all fine and well, but - where's the other half of that hottie behind him, on the right...?

I hope this doesn't lead to more commercials. Those of us on the east coast have, thankfully, been relatively spared from him and would like to keep it that way.

Wow, what a complete FU#$ING JOKE!   I'm sorry but this kind of BS is exactly what is wrong with our country.  I'm a school teacher and work my tail off to try to assist the youth of today and this freaking idiot can make $1 million just to shave?  How pathetic?

Just think of the publicity this company would of got if it told Wilson it would give a $1 million to a charity of his choice.

@ddoss11 You work 10 months a year plus extended holiday vacations.

Most of us work 11.5 months a year with one day off per holiday.  Stop with the pandering and near-cliche comments (e.g. assist the youth of today).  We all work, and we can all see this 'offer' for what it really is.  Get over yourself, or go back to school so you can make more money.

Besides, what kind of teacher goes around on message boards posting "FU#$ING"??

@ddoss11 WOW!  I sure hope that you have a different attitude when you are teaching the youth of America.  I work my tail off in my line of work too, but instead of whining and showing jealousy, I keep working and teaching my own children.  If you are a representation of the teachers in America, then I see why the youth of America is struggling in some areas.

@ddoss11 Jealousy is unbecoming. I really hope communists like you aren't teaching our kids. You knew what teachers made when you decided to become one. Now, stop whining about it. The market judged his beard to be much more valuable than you, and I would say that is a fair assessment. Commies shouldn't be allowed to teach kids.

@ddoss11

Relax.  It's a PR stunt, and comes under the heading of advertising.  The razor company is probably counting on this getting lots of publicity.  Which it already is.

As for your angst, it sounds like jealousy.  You made your choice, be happy with it.  There are lots of people who are not necessarily great contributors to society earning big money.  That's life in a free society.

Or would you rather have government dictate everything?  Good luck with that.  "Totally equal" societies are nothing of the sort and have the most privileged elites, which are harder to get into than making a lot of money is in a free society.

@maknoblauch @ddoss11 lol.....you don't know teachers very well, teachers receive time off in the summer sure, but classes start early and their hours run WELL INTO THE EVENING.  When you say "most of us", do "most of us" take as much home with us as teachers do?  Nope......   Lastly, I'm not a teacher but remember one other bad thing about the teaching profession.  While most of us get 1-4 weeks of vacation to use when we please, teachers are relegated to a week long trip during the summer.  Seems insignificant until you really consider how much it sucks.  They get 2 months "off" in the summer, thats their vacation time and they're told when to us it (for the most part).

All done....I do agree with the other sentiment though, the razor company couldn't buy better publicity that A.  offering the $1 Million  or B.  Actually getting to shave the beard with their product.  I love it....

@SteveJoseph @maknoblauch @ddoss11 too bad teachers don't have a strong union like MLBPA working for them, so they can't get fired for performance and behavior issues:).

Randi Weingartner (head of the USTA)would chew up and spit Selig out, then  lick his blood off her fingers in delight when she was done.

Sorry for the graphic image but if you live in NY you'd understand.
