Richie Incognito was involved in an altercation prior to training camp that resulted in the Dolphins’ guard punching and knocking out a hotel security guard, according to an Adam Schefter report.

Schefter cites league sources who said the incident occurred at a nightclub in the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami. One person who knows Incognito said he was punched first.

BURKE & FARRAR: Does Von Miller’s suspension end Denver’s Super Bowl hopes?

The report says the hotel is unwilling to turn over videotape of the incident, and thus, the NFL has not seen it and declined comment.

The Dolphins, on the other hand, have “done everything to bury it”, according to the report.

From ESPN:

The league knows it cannot police all altercations involving NFL players, though this one happened in public, with witnesses. It still is premature, but Incognito’s altercation could be a violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

Incognito’s reputation for being a dirty player in his first seven NFL seasons has already been a storyline this week. Earlier Wednesday, Texans defensive end Antonio Smith was suspended one regular-season game for swinging his helmet at Incognito in their Saturday preseason matchup. Their feud dates back to when Incognito played for the Rams and Smith played for the Cardinals, both in the NFC West.

From ESPN:

Cardinals players such as Smith and Darnell Dockett were known to dislike Incognito for the way he played. “They HATE each other,” one person familiar with the two player’s battles texted Tuesday. Smith felt as strongly as he did because he felt Incognito pinched players on the bottom of piles and delivered late hits when players weren’t looking.

On Saturday night, a video replay of the incident shows Incognito sticking his hands under Smith’s facemask, then shoving the Texans defensive end before Smith ripped off Incognito’s helmet and swung it in anger, drawing the one-game suspension that the NFL announced today. Coaches who looked at the film said Incognito did nothing wrong on the play.

Screw Incognito. He should never play another down in the NFL. I hope Martin and the hotel security guard both take many millions from that thug.

Pinching? He pinches people in the pile? OMG! Please call Bill Romanowski to counsel him!

Seems to me everyone is coming down on Incognito.  From what I hear, he didn't throw the first punch.  If that is what happened, I would hope he hit the guy back.  That doesn't make him a thug, it makes him defend himself.  Stop calling people names just because they're not on your favorite team or you're jealous because they make a bunch more money than you.

I wish they would just say who Incognito is. First it was, who's on first that I still have no idea who is on first, and now they play games with Incognito. Me thinks there could be roid rage going on here? NFL is afraid to start testing, they don't want to find 50% of the players are using. Then what?

On a football team, you love the dirty player as long as he's on your side.

Darnell Dockett, probably the dirtiest player in the game, does not like how Incognito plays. Not sure what that says about these two. I hate both of them and was happy to see Incognito leave the NFC West.

Maybe cnnsi and espn could do a bit of research before posting lies. The police report paints a different picture. Incognito was punched and didn't throw a punch. The truth isn't as fun to read I suppose.

Incognito looks and acts like a thinner Chris Farley in his movies. 'Richie' is a total idiot and a dirty player. I bet Farleys' brain is probably working better than Incognitos' and Chris has been ded for years!

Nebraska Got rid of him for a reason.

Incognito has had many, many, many problems with his temper, and getting into fights. Problems at Nebraska (got kicked off of the team), Oregon (never played because of conduct), Rams (Several games with two personal fouls), and now Miami. Nothing new. Incognito is a hot head.

may not endear him with local authorities but should do wonders for his on field rep under his new alias: KO

Another pro athlete getting in trouble at a "nightclub."   Although I suspect it's not the kind of nightclub where the Rat Pack used to hang out.

@yadda71 I think that speaks volumes when one dirty player dislikes another dirty player.

@WaylonCooper Oh now you are defending thuggish behavior all of a sudden?......He did not throw a punch really?...Also I don't believe any person would try to punch a man of his size and strength first I am sure he was being aggressive and arrogant a lot of these player think they are above the law...Don't try to make excuses now because its someone you want to defend!!

@WaylonCooper How do you KO someone without throwing a punch? Did he roundhouse kick him? Head Butt? What happened? I ask you because you seem to have some sort of inside information that the rest of us don't.

@RD If you're going to insult another person's intelligence, at least take the time to spell check and review your grammar

@sugaslim The fact that the hotel refused to release the security tape speaks volumes. They're probably trying to avoid bad PR and a lawsuit. Of course, if Incognito swung first, why wouldn't they release it? Personally, I can think of smarting things to do than to throw the first punch with that guy unless I was willing to take one on the chin for an easy payday. Wouldn't be the first time someone had that idea!

@MidwestGolfFan Actually I would think the Fountainebleau is exactly like what the Rat Pack used to hang out.  In fact I think they did.

@Mr. J @WaylonCooper

Just like you're sure no one would attempt to rob a 6' 7" 320 lbs Mike Adams?  Some people are idiots.  I definitely wouldn't be throwing the first punch and it sounds like you wouldn't either.  That doesn't mean someone out there isn't dumb enough to.

@rskins09 @Torrey Runner You're almost 40 years late on that one....The Rams/especially Fisher are the new home base for thugs and punks.

@WaylonCooper I don't care what happened.  I'm just telling you that the police report says that Incognito says that he was punched.  That's nothing more than the police taking a statement from the parties involved and doesn't make it true one way or the other.

WaylonCooper
WaylonCooper

Not arguing his character, however he wasn't arrested. The police report says he was punched, not the other way around. The hotel won't release the video. The only thing saying he did wrong is espn's unnamed source. You believe what you want though.

KristianColasacco

@WaylonCooper The police report you're quoting as gospel simply says that "Incognito says..."  Oh okay, I'm sure he wouldn't lie because he seems like such a stand-up guy.
