Maria Sharapova withdrew from the U.S. Open Wednesday because of bursitis in her right shoulder, tournament organizers announced.

Sharapova won the tournament in 2006 and was the third seed for the Open, which starts Monday.

“Maria has informed us that she will be unable to compete at the U.S. Open this year due to a right shoulder bursitis and has withdrawn from the tournament,” according to a statement from U.S. Open tournament director David Brewer. “We wish her a speedy recovery and look forward to her return to New York next year.”

Agnieszka Radwanska will move up to the No. 3 seed in women’s singles and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova becomes the No. 32 seed. Serena Williams is the tournament’s top seed and defending champion.  Victoria Azarenka is seeded second.

Sharapova has played in only one match on tour since her second-round loss in June at Wimbledon.

Come on people, Facebook, Candy, and Posing takes a good amount of her time... and Serena spends time in the gym. Maybe she's spending time in the gym now in lieu of candy posing facebooking.

Must need the time to do advertising for her candy line since she decided not to change her name.  But then again she was probably in Serena's side of the ladder and decided not to get embarrassed again.

Wait, didn't she just say she was planning to play lots of matches at the Us Open????? Maybe she was referring to 2014.
