Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul has been elected president of the National Basketball Players Association, the NBPA announced Wednesday.

Paul takes over for veteran Derek Fisher, after Miami Heat forward and league MVP LeBron James declined to run for the position.  Fisher’s term as president ended in controversy and resulted in the firing of Billy Hunter, the union’s executive director during the All-Star Game.

Vice president New Orleans Pelicans guard Roger Mason was also considered to be a strong candidate for the position.

Paul, a six-time All-Star who was named first-team All-NBA in 2012-13, gives the NBPA its first big-name president since Patrick Ewing’s term expired in 2001.

How come every time lebron knows he won't win, he drops out?, like at the nba slam dunk contest a few years back...now the president's race..

When i think of Chris Paul i think of a me first selfish , dishonest person...

A very under handed individual based on how he dealt with the Clippers this off season and when asked he lied to reporters about having any knowledge about the direction of the Clippers, when it was Chris pulling the strings. I rather see Cliff Paul get the job, he cannot be any worse than Chris Paul.....

@jdane

I don't know about you, but you should be able to look a man in his eyes and believe what he is telling you is the truth. Tell me @jdane if you believe Chris Paul is a honest man
