New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is not likely to play in the Patriots’ season opener at Buffalo on Sept. 8, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.

In addition to the four surgeries Gronkowski has had on his left forearm, the 24-year-old also had back surgery in the offseason. He hasn’t played in any preseason games.

With Gronkowski out and Aaron Hernandez incarcerated, the Patriots have turned to rookie Zach Sudfeld in the preseason. An undrafted free agent out of Nevada, Sudfeld has three receptions for 54 yards and as score in two games.

A two-time Pro Bowler, Gronkowski led the NFL in receiving touchdowns in 2011 with 17 and was fifth in receptions. He scored 11 touchdowns last season.

Every team was cheating, EVERY team was videotaping.  Roger Goodell sent that memo about videotaping to EVERY team in the NFL, not just the Pats.  Because EVERY team was videotaping, because it was LEGAL.  EVERY team cheats, Saints commit bounties, Broncos players take drugs, Jets trip players, 49ers commit salary cap violations, Seahawks and Colts pump in phony crowd noise. EVERY team cheats.

He won't come back until week 12...and then get hurt for the playoffs.........again

Uh, not likely? Duh, he ISN'T going to play.  He is not likely to play in the first 4 games.  When he does play he is not likely to play much without getting injured again.

It appears it won't matter either way.  Tom Brady is looking unbelievable already.  If Amendola does not get hurt during the year (and that is a BIG if) I predict he will lead the NFL in receptions.  If Tom can lead this mishmash of new players to 12 or 13 wins, it just may be his best accomplishment yet.

The Patriots could win their division playing eight on eleven all year.

@Rickapolis Funny.  The Jets would win the division this year if they had Tom Brady at QB.  Same goes for the Dolphins or Bills.  Tom is the difference, not the Patriots.

@randomdeletion @Rickapolis The Patriots won 11 games in 2008 with Matt Cassel at QB.  Hate if you want but the Patriots win because they are better coached and more organized than all the other AFC East teams put together.

@salvaje50  The Pats won 11 games and missed the playoffs (only time in the Brady era) after going 18-1 and coming within a helmet catch of winning a super bowl.  That was pretty much an outright failure.

Yes they have a great coach and great organization, but the 2008 team was also a great team that had a hilariously-easy schedule.
