New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez’s lawyers have begun the process of filing a formal grievance against the team for the manner in which they handled his medical treatment since last October’s playoffs, ESPN New York’s Andrew Marchand reported Sunday.

The report comes one day after one of Rodriguez’s lawyers, Joe Tacopina, told the New York Times the team misled Rodriguez about a recent hip injury that delayed the start of his season.

“We have basically had enough,” Tacopina told the Times on Friday. “The process is being perverted when they act the way they do to make their case. They are pushing Alex to his limit.”

He added: “The legacy of George Steinbrenner would be horrified. This is the New York Yankees. This isn’t some thug-culture club.”

Tacopina told the Times that the Yankees hid MRI results from Rodriguez, while continuing to play him last postseason with a torn labrum in his left hip.

According to ESPN New York’s Marchand, Rodriguez’s defense team also contends that Yankees president Randy Levine told the surgeon who performed offseason surgery on Rodriguez’s hip he would be “fine” if Rodriguez never got to play again.

Finally, there is the dispute that kept Rodriguez off the field earlier this season, when Rodriguez said he was healthy enough to play despite what team doctors diagnosed as a Grade 1 quad strain.

The Yankees have denied all of these allegations. According to Marchand, Rodriguez’s lawyers have notified the MLB Players’ Association of their claims, the first step that could lead to a formal grievance.

Randy Levine and the Stienbrenners only have themselves to blame.  Cashman was ready to let this piece of trash walk, and they cut the deal, with deluded daydreams of YES Network ratings when all them home run milestones were getting approached.  They deserve this.

George would have brow beat soft between the ears A-Roid into suicide when the stripper pics hit the front pages.  A-Roid's attorney should be repeatedly punched in the throat for even mentioning George.

Is A Fraud a cheat and a liar? Certainly.

But, it would not surprise me if some or all of A Fraud's allegations are true. The Yankees desperately want to get out from A Fraud's contract...and will do everything in their power to do so. This is the franchise that paid a private eye to dig up dirt on one of its own players (Dave Winfield) in the past.

Let's not be naive here. The Yankees are likely as dirty as A Fraud.

Alex Rodriguez and Lance Armstrong had to have been separated at birth. They are both as slimy and contemptible as any sports figures in my lifetime (and I'm 61). How can A-Rod continue to exist in the Yankee clubhouse? Does anyone speak to him? Does he have any friends at all? He is so lacking in character that I can hardly believe he can even live with himself.

He tasted so, so juicy.

I'm just sorry I couldn't help more with his hip injury.

Bud is bad.  We had so much more to do!

How about the yanks filing a grievance against this cheating piece of crap for being a FRAUD! Why is he even in the game? The egomaniac can't face the truth, cheaters always lose.

With all the money the Yankees and Rangers have paid him, A-Fraud can stay lawyered up for years to come.

@pamperofirpo Come on man, the franchise didn't do that, liquored up George did that.

And the entire sport of baseball is as dirty as A-roid and the Yankees.

While ther have been lots of allegations against A-Rod, not one piece of proof has been shown throughout this MLB and media witch hunt.

This is still America. You wouldn't want to be convicted and discarded without a fair hearing.

Lighten up.

@EBexpat Yeah, the Yankees are just innocent victims.  I'm sure the Yankee's current crusade against ARod is totally about cleaning up the game and not at all about trying to get out of that contract that they signed him to.
