Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey said he should not have to face New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez this weekend in light of Rodriguez receiving a 211-game suspension for his role in the Biogenesis performance-enhancing drug scandal.

Lackey is scheduled to pitch on Saturday at Fenway Park in the second game of a three-game set against the Yankees.

“I’ve got a problem with it. You bet I do,” Lackey told the Boston Globe. “How is he still playing? He obviously did something and he’s playing. I’m not sure that’s right. … It’s pretty evident he’s been doing stuff for a lot of years I’ve been facing him.”

CORCORAN: Allegations that A-Rod’s camp outed players puts union in tough spot

Lackey, who is 7-10 with a 3.32 ERA this season, said that Rodriguez is a constant topic of conversation in their clubhouse.

“Sure, we talk about it,” he said. “But talking to the media about it is a little bit different. People have strong feelings.

“He took me deep the first time I faced him as a rookie, and he admitted to doing stuff back then. There are a lot of things I want back from him.”

I guess you can't accuse ARod of not being able to play under pressure seeing how he's doing tonight.

Lackey doesn't want to face him because his ERA will double!  A-Rod is batting .289 since coming back, and, along with Soriano, they are leading the surging Yanks!  Can't wait till Jeter comes back, also!  Selig and the owners are out to make tens of millions of dollars, and A-Rod (who never tested positive) is not buying it!  Good for him!  These owners would feed their "gladiators" to the dogs; they care less for the game than their pockets!

i would love to see arod get hit every AB from now until his hearing

Lackey, another Red Sox pitcher who never met a microphone he didn't like! Just shut up and pitch, whiner.

They should settle down and have a Popeye's and PEDs summit in which they discuss their differences

Who cares if baseball is in the Olympics or not.  Smarter not to be in the Olympics due to the revenue issue which is why basketball is exploring breaking away.  Soccer is doing fine not sending their best players to the Olympics (it's getting to the point where most club teams forbid their players from playing in the Olympics).

Is it true that MLB is trying to clean up its act in order to curry favor with the Olympics? I thought I read that baseball was dropped from the Olympics because of the compliance problems that players were having with USADA and WADA

I'd be willing to bet A-Rod retires in the off season and never faces the suspension.

A-Roid is at the end of his career and knows it. He's trying to get every last cent he can from baseball before he's banned because no one will touch him for anything once he's out. That's why he's fighting.

Braun on the other hand still has a future playing and he needs to preserve that chance, that's why he took a deal and shut up.

@cowboyronin I'd say his opinion about something that directly affects him is far more important than yours, a random dude that nobody knows.

Yet here you are thinking people care.

@parkbrav Baseball was dropped because the major countries like Russia etc didn't have baseball teams. So the WBC was started in its place.

@parkbrav if thats true i find it hysterical because how many athletes in the olympics get nailed for PEDs?  and long before it was even an issue with MLB...  PED abuse for the olympics has been going on forever and thats not why- that could be their excuse but the real reason is that the olympics are mainly run by euro-trash who dont care for the new world.  baseball is played by the entire western hemisphere and asia and yet- who thought it didnt deserve to be an olympic sport?  but cross country skiing and shooting (the biathlon) is??  cmon... 4 countries actually compete for the biathalon - its just an anti US bias.

@Matthew W Yep, he is doing nothing less than Selig and his cronies, the owners, are doing!  They are trying to get hundreds of millions with these suspensions, and, A-Rod is telling them to come and get it if they can!

@Richard B @parkbrav well wait a second, consider all the European teams like France that competed in the World Baseball Classic this year.

parkbrav

@jimmyjon_55555 @parkbrav I don't disagree, look at the anti-u.s. bias in the raquet sports like badminton. Regardless, if you're MLB, you are probably embarrassed to be dropped from the Olympics and you probably want your sport to re-admitted ASAP. Again, if your players are not USADA / WADA compliant, re-admittance would become a problem wouldn't it?

@PAZSKY @sunalsorises They usually negotiate a retirement package in that case which gets about 80% of the money still owed.  The saddest thing is that no matter what, this guy wins for cheating.

@mystafugee @KristianColasacco @cowboyronin Yeah but one thing you gotta remember is that a lot of these comments that always get everyone up in arms are because the players were asked questions about it by reporters just trying to get a quote.

It would be one thing if he was just randomly going off now but I don't think that's probably the case.

parkbrav
parkbrav

@mystafugee @parkbrav Just because you don't have the world's best soccer players does that mean you can't have Olympic soccer?

mystafugee
mystafugee

@parkbrav @mystafugee well probably why they won't include it.  Plus they have a ton of international cricket tournaments the way it is.

mystafugee
mystafugee

@parkbrav @mystafugee politics aside, I think it came down to it's just not popular even with the US in terms of viewers.  They didn't have the best players.  They threw out wrestling so if that can go, I'm guessing baseball was pretty far down the list.  As for the other sports you mention, they probably have strong politcal backing in the IOC.

parkbrav
parkbrav

@mystafugee  @parkbrav I think when you consider the "axed America's past time" issues you have to confront the WADA issues as well which you are only dancing around. After all, they allow China and the asian countries to medal in badminton and synchronized swimming and ribbon twirling

mystafugee
mystafugee

@parkbrav @mystafugee part of their rationale too was they weren't sending their best players which is strange since soccer doesn't.

mystafugee
mystafugee

@parkbrav @mystafugee Axing America's past time?  Besides, it didn't draw very well and it's a waste of money making countries like Greece build baseball stadiums.

parkbrav
parkbrav

@mystafugee @parkbrav what political overtones? The Caribbean and Latin America - not the U.S. - dominate international baseball

mystafugee
mystafugee

@parkbrav @mystafugee I think there was some political overtones but it was more of an anti-US bias.  The drug testing aspect IMO was just an excuse seeing how the NBA has a joke drug testing program as far as PED's are concerned.

parkbrav
parkbrav

@mystafugee @parkbrav it's not really a counter argument because  the past does not necessarily have any bearing on future results.

Again, I am  just speculating and I do not want to put words in someone's mouth. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a connection between USADA, WADA and MLB putting pressure on its players. Also, don't forget about the possible involvement of Congress. My general point is that there is probably a bigger picture here and that it's probably not just about A-Fraud

mystafugee
mystafugee

@parkbrav @mystafugee no, just saying why even when baseball was in the Olympics the general public didn't care.  Other than Cuba, none of the countries sent top line players either.

parkbrav
parkbrav

@mystafugee @parkbrav I'm just speculating of course, but one would think that it would be good for the game. You do realize that baseball once was an Olympic sport, right?

parkbrav
parkbrav

@Richard B @parkbrav Right. A year before MLB implemented any serious drug testing and at a time when Big Mac didn't want to talk about the past and it maybe  looked like nothing was going to happen about PEDs

Richard B
Richard B

@parkbrav @Richard B There was also an issue of the Olympics occurring during the baseball season and MLB wouldn't change its schedule to allow its players to play. Anyway, if you flip back to 2005, you basically had the US, Mexico, some Caribbean teams, Japan and South Korea who had baseball teams. Netherlands has done well in the WBC but they ddin't have a team in 2005 either.

parkbrav
parkbrav

@Richard B Also, Italy and Spain played well.

You would start a WBC tourny if you can't get into the Olympics, right?

PAZSKY
PAZSKY

@KristianColasacco @PAZSKY @sunalsorises Not true- in baseball, when you retire, you lose the money...why would they pay when you are retired?? I can't remember who, but a pitcher retired a few years ago with a few years left on his contract- he didn't get paid.
