RGIII says window is now for gay players to come out
Although there has not been an active player in the National Football League who has come out as gay, several reports have stated that the league could have players come out in the near future.
NBA free-agent Jason Collins became the first active player to come out via an article in Sports Illustrated.
Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III gave a wide-ranging interview to GQ magazine for their September issue and had some things to say about the possibility of a gay player coming out. The comments below did not make the magazine, but are in the outtakes posted online.
“I think there are [gay players] right now, and if they’re looking for a window to just come out, I mean, now is the window. My view on it is, yes, I am a Christian, but to each his own,” he said to GQ. “You do what you want to do. If some Christians want to look at being gay as a sin, then thinking about other women, committing adultery—or any of those other sins that are in the Bible—those are sins, too. And God looks at all of us the same way.”
