Although there has not been an active player in the National Football League who has come out as gay, several reports have stated that the league could have players come out in the near future.

NBA free-agent Jason Collins became the first active player to come out via an article in Sports Illustrated.

Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III gave a wide-ranging interview to GQ magazine for their September issue and had some things to say about the possibility of a gay player coming out. The comments below did not make the magazine, but are in the outtakes posted online.

BURKE: Off the Snap: Robert Griffin III says ‘there’s no doubt I’m playing Week 1′

“I think there are [gay players] right now, and if they’re looking for a window to just come out, I mean, now is the window. My view on it is, yes, I am a Christian, but to each his own,” he said to GQ. “You do what you want to do. If some Christians want to look at being gay as a sin, then thinking about other women, committing adultery—or any of those other sins that are in the Bible—those are sins, too. And God looks at all of us the same way.”

Gays and blacks, not a day passes without having to hear these incessant whiners complaining or advocating their "rights."

Who cares if a person is gay or not. This whole thing is stupid. It should not matter whether you are gay or not and RG3 they shouldnt have to "come out" because they are getting paid for football, not for sharing the sexual preference. A person coming out gay on a team would even further rise problems more than it helps it. We may never see the same game again because the media will always perpetuate controversy on whether this purpose is gay or not and lockerooms will most likely split on the issue, if a player is not picked in a draft he will say it was because he was gay. It's best to leave this stuff alone.

Jason Collins came out a few months ago... I forget, who signed him???  Oh yea, NOBODY!!!  We can be PC all we want, but the fact remains that there's no place in a professional men's locker room for a gay man.  Right, wrong, or indifferent... there's a valid argument.

According to the Old Testament, having sex with a menstruating woman is the same level of sin as sodomy.

I noticed he mentioned adultery, I guess he kept in mind the alleged sexting of some waitress on his wedding night (note: he wasn't marrying that waitress)

He sounded fairly intelligent... until the "christian" part.

Oh rg3, the nfl lebron james wanna be.  Hasn't even played enough to become the mouth piece and this arrogant fool talks. PLEASE blow your knee, take to twitter and tell us how you'll be back next year. go away boy.

can you ever shut up. you are making yourself look stupid by saying how you'll play and then backtrack saying it was mis understood. really? YOU said it and now you'd like to have queers around. great, go find some.

RG3 it's easy for you to say, you are not the one coming out. I am sure there are those out there who have suspicions about you...  If you truly believe its time the locker room has openly gay players, why dont you "RG3" announce to the world you are gay, be a trail blazer take the slings and arrows...  Then onces more players come out and things settled down , you can announce you are not really gay. Now that would be something, but if you are not willing to go the distance for gay rights RG3 then why speak on the matter. Everyone can flap their gums but very few take action.

RGIII - They already have come out.

I love the people who hide behind the Bible on issues such as this.  I guess the Bible is just where we choose verses that fit our own views and ignore the one's that don't.

would you draft a gay fantasy football player?

The reason it is important for gay players to be able to 'come out' is because they should not feel it necessary to hide such an important part of their identity (and for those of you who have no imagination, I am not gay. I just believe in equality). It should make no difference. It does because of the ignorant superstition that cause people to fear what they don't agree with. Someone's sexuality should no more difference than their religion or political views. Learn to live with it like mature adults.

@TheBigStroonzo Yeah, imagine. Lynchings, murders, senseless beatings, and they have the nerve to complain. How about them whiners?

@NY NBK Far Superior It shouldn't be a big deal, but since some religions preach heavily against it and since some people are homophobic, the people that are gay feel compelled to hide it for fear of being beaten up, taunted, or otherwise being ostracized from the locker room.

If everyone was accepting of gay people, the story wouldnt be a big deal, or really it would be a non-story as you say

@Bussman24 Ummm...the actual fact is there are gay men in many professional sports locker rooms already. There have been as long as there have been professional sports.

@Bussman24

Are you insinuating someone would have signed him if he didn't come out?? He wasn't very good to begin with. There are still players available who are better than him. Teams are interested in him, he just hasn't signed. Come with the same argument in October if he's still unsigned... there's still a ALOT of time left before teams start preseason camps.

@AVL And those who know the Bible also know that Jesus Christ came and fulfilled the Old Testament, making laws such as this no more. It's the same reason why OT verses about homosexuality hold little importance, but the ones in the New Testament make it crystal clear what the Bible speaks about the issue.

@m.james61 yea, that whole "I believe in a mystical being floating up in the sky watching over us as we destroy each other, kill/rape women and children, starve to death, and basically implode as a species"... yea, that's kinda funny!!!

@WHO*IS*ESPN spoken like a true Cowboy fan.  One point RG3 made though, now is the time for a gay player to come out.... but you guys already have one, don't you!?!?!  Come on R(h)omo, the coast is clear now...

@friendly--neighborhood--scrawler why so angry? he's just saying that right now there is a climate where players are slowly revealing their orientation...it's times like this when people can start a wave and come out together so they don't feel so alone. no need to be so harsh.

@mystafugeeExactly where do you get that impression? Is that the whole 'judge not, lest ye be judged' verse that people like yourself love to quote? If you or others actually knew the Bible as a whole, it also says we are to call out those who are unfaithful. There are false prophets, of course, but many who follow the Bible follow all of its teachings. It's the people who do not read it regularly or study it that are the ones picking and choosing verses.

@Rickapolis ok, maybe GOD cares and HE doesn't like it. Period. But I know gays, and don't care. But straight people don' t have to give a rats azz if they suck men off no more than gays knowing what straight people do.  Why do gays have to promote their lifestyle on us and make us feel like we have to cater to them? But with you saying you're not gay, then maybe your really feeling insecure about speaking for gays?

Oh crap, i just read my comment, and it makes me sound like i am gay and angry
 was not my intention... lol
what really upsets me are players like RG3 in  front of a microphone ever chance they get giving their opinions on everything like anyone cares... His face should be in that playbook and if he feels otherwise he better not miss any hot reads on game day. That was the point i wanted to make in a round about way.

@Iowa @mystafugee I have one for you Iowa. And it's not in the bible. No one else's sexual orientation is any of your business. You'll stop hearing about it when civil laws stop treating gay and lesbian people differently.

@Iowa @mystafugee That's a good point.  The important thing to remember is it's a work of fiction, so sighting it one way or another for real-world application is pointless.

@WHO*IS*ESPN You are, of course, entitled to your opinion, but it may be wiser to keep it to yourself until you learn to speak it more maturely. Saying things like 'suck men off'  shows you don't even understand what we're talking about. It's about forcing two people that have love for one another having to hide it because of intolerance from those who are, most probably, afraid of anyone unlike themselves. Try to grow up a little. Your attitude really is a very childish one.
