The San Francisco Giants organization apologized to Baltimore Orioles center fielder Adam Jones for an incident in which Jones says a fan threw a banana at him in the ninth inning of the Orioles’ game Sunday at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

Jones, who is black, tweeted about the incident after the Orioles beat the Giants 10-2 on Sunday.  Jones went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI in the game. The Giants said security camera footage will be reviewed Monday to try to confirm Jones’ claim.

CORCORAN: Adam Jones says fan threw banana at him during Orioles-Giants game

The Giants issued a statement Monday:

“We were extremely disappointed to learn about the incident involving Adam Jones at AT&T Park yesterday. The Giants have a zero tolerance policy against this type of behavior, which results in immediate ejection from the ballpark. While we have been investigating the matter since we learned of the situation, unfortunately we have been unable to identify the person responsible. We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans.”

While they have not narrowed down any suspected banana thrower, have they identified the banana? Did a grounds crew worker pick it up? Just where is the alleged banana? As far as racial overtones....maybe. Or perhaps a banana was all the thrower had available.

In either case this is likely the beginning of the end of mankind.

Just a matter of time before the American racists picked up on the oh-so clever northern and eastern european methods of playful, comfortable and unapologetic shows of racism. I think we all knew that the racists were there, but who knew the shame would wear off?

He just could have been hungry and some altruistic fan wanted to help. Whats wrong with that?
