The National Football League will look at this year’s preseason games and study them to see what can be improved in hopes of offering a better product in the future, reports NFL.com.

The league has said that he would consider an 18-game regular season schedule, and have looked at different formats to split the regular season and preseason games.  A combination of 18-and-2, 16-and-2 or 17-and-3 are possibilities.

According to the report, the league will also look at how much starters play, how the lineups are configured and fan reaction, particularly with the fourth and final preseason game. The third preseason game is usually the “dress rehearsal” for most teams, when teams play their starters for the majority of the game.

More from NFL.com:

In addition, the NFL has discussed — and will continue to discuss — the possibility of lowering preseason ticket prices across the board. One team can’t just drop prices; it would have to be a league-induced change. And the NFL can’t impose it unilaterally; owners would have to vote on the proposed change at an owners’ meeting.

There should be a maximum of 2 preseason games each year.  Keep the 16 game regular season.

What a joke and insult to suggest they have to "examine" this further.  They KNOW they are screwing the fans that buy season tickets HARD.  It is a total rip off to charge full prices for the preseason games.  They should be 20% of a normal ticket to see the crap they put on the field in the preseason.  All preseason ticket holders should be allowed to NOT buy the preseason tickets, make it an option.  Then the cheaper tickets would allow more actual fans of the team a chance to attend a game that would not otherwise see the team play live once.

I am sure the NFL will solve the problem with it usual insightful and decisive vigor, much to the benefit and delight of fans.

Like it did the the Pro Bowl.

They should hire me as a consultant to save time and money. The preseason games are lousy; scrubs and rookies play. They'll be lousy unless they count, and then they won't be preseason. The players are already breaking down over 16 games.

Did this story use the word "quality" in the same sentence with "NFL preseason games"?

Here's a suggestion, stop charging fans the same price for exhibition games as you do regular season games.
