Los Angeles Lakers guard Kobe Bryant is growing increasingly optimistic that he will return to the court from his ruptured Achilles tendon surgery sooner rather than later.

In an NBA.com report, Bryant said that he has “shattered” the average recovery time from Achilles surgery and described his procedure as “different.” As a result of the procedure, Bryant said, he has been able to progress to the point of working out and walking just over three months after having surgery to repair a tear of his Achilles tendon he suffered on April 12.

Bryant said he still doesn’t have a timetable for his return despite his accelerated recovery. Lakers vice president Jim Buss said last month that he would “bet a lot of money” that Bryant would be ready to return by the preseason.

The Lakers open preseason play against the Golden State Warriors on Oct. 5.

Do you really need a healthy Achilles to chunk up 50 jumpers a game?

When someone as talented as Kobe comes along every few decades, there will always be a couple of sour grapes trolling lies trying to diminish him.

Kobe also shattered the old rape record.  By his own account the woman was only in his room 5 minutes, he sure is quick.

It's no surprise Kobe is ahead of schedule as his work ethic is second to none, so he'll be easily shattering MJ's career points total this season, probably in fewer shots attempted.

give him a 200 game suspension like A-Rod.  spare the details of his different recovery.

Erik Karlsson shattered the recovery time for an achilles injury. He was back in 2 months from a 70% lacerated tendon. Terell Suggs was back in 5 months after his rupture. Sorry Kobe, you aren't special.

Absolutely, arms snapping, legs popping out of skin, wife beatings even higher, hearts exploding, blood dripping from ears, count me in ! Whomever has the best chemist wins. Terrance Jones alleged stomping will be the norm with morbid results. No legit Dr would say roiding up is how to "maintain peak health".

Who are we to stop Aaron Hernandez from killing folks, as long as it's no one I know.  Slight difference btwn injury recovery roids and "maintain peak health" roids. Actually, everyone gives a crap because a bunch of guys just got suspended, but let's wish they didn't. But concern for their health is warm and fuzzy, especially the maintain peak health part. Everyone gives a crap and leaves it on message boards.

PS - looking forward to Beans season, train wreck.

Biogenesis? Who gives a crap? These guys put their bodies through hell and yet it's not OK to maintain peak health? They should just sit injured and lose quality of life? Not something I would do. Get well as fast as possible Kobe. Folks need to eliminate the contradictions in their thinking.

@DirtyPantiesLover1

I suppose if you ruptured your achilles and a doctor offered you some drugs to help it heal faster, you would turn him down and limp out of his office, on your crutches with your head held high.

What exactly is the problem?  It's the off-season, he's not competing, and he's recovering from an injury, Anyone in any walk of life would be stupid not do get the best treatment available to recover from an injury.

@modsuperstar

The article states that "Bryant said that he has “shattered” the average recovery time from Achilles surgery."

See the word "average"?  Kobe wasn't suggesting that he was going to break the world record on recovery time.  He's stating his recovery time is way beyond the "average" recovery time.

Make sense?

@Tommy P I heard a comedian say, "I don't care about steroids and PEDs. Every person in here WISHES they could take a pill or shot and be better at their job."

And it's true. The vitriol comes from the jealousy...jealousy that grown men make millions to play a child's game.

I'd love to see a sports league where steroids were not only permitted, but encouraged. I'd like to see some 3.7 second 40 yard dashes, 120 HRs in a season, etc.

Again, if these guys are willing to take the risks with their own bodies, then who are we to stop them?

I know, I know. "what about the children"? If your child's role model is a professional athlete, you're doing it ("it" being PARENTING) wrong.

Just Sayin.
