Rangers’ Matt Garza blasts A’s Eric Sogard and wife in Twitter rant

After a 4-2 loss on Saturday in which the Oakland Athletics bunted four times to exploit his weakness as a fielder, Texas Rangers pitcher Matt Garza unleashed a tirade on his private Twitter account directed at A’s second baseman Eric Sogard, who laid down two of those successful bunts.

Garza yelled at Sogard after his second bunt of the game — claiming afterward that he asked him “if there were any good places to eat in Oakland” — leading Sogard’s wife to post on her Twitter account, “Get em on get em over get em in!”

In Twitter messages to Sogard and his wife after the game, Garza criticized Sogard for “having your wife speak for you,” writing twice that baseball is a “man’s game.”

USAToday.com posted a screen shot of the tweets:

Garza, who threatened Reds pitcher Johnny Cueto earlier this season, issued an apology on Sunday, saying that he let his passion carry over off the field.

From MLBlogs.com:

“All I want to say is I let my competitive spirit cross outside the lines, and that shouldn’t happen. I let my passion, my fire carry over, and that’s not how this game should be played. And for that I apologize to the Sogards for anything that was said through my Twitter. That’s all I have. I regret what happened, and I’m just looking forward to a great game today.”

Now everyone knows to bunt to get under his skin.  You are a stupid manager if you don't bunt a couple times in the first inning of every game.  Make sure your wife is behind the screen though.

The Twins gave up their starting shortstop and Garza and got nothing in return but I now think it was a really good trade for the Twins.  What a tool!

Hey Garza you think 4 bunts in a game is too much? Wait until a team that's going nowhere and is just playing out the schedule gets a crack at you. There are coaches on those teams (Ventura-White Sox, Scioscia-Angels) that are old school and will be happy to pull you down off the pedestal you made for yourself. "You play to win the game" (Herm Edwards)

Ha!

Baseball is a man's game?

Right...

Garza will have plenty of time to find places to eat during the offseason, since the Rangers are going nowhere yet again.

Garza sounds like a misogynistic psycho, and the A's just gave MLB a roadmap of how to defeat Garza on the mound...bunt, bunt, bunt then bunt again. Learn how to field your position, dude...or just go on misogynistic twitter rants against a players pregnant wife after you lose a game on National TV.

I think Charlie P. is correct that the apology wasn't written by the same person. It contains correct punctuation, as well as some words I'm certain that Garza could not spell. By the way, nice beard Matt, you look like a 6 foot tall vagina!!! Learn how to field your position, and stop whining when smart baseball teams exploit your weakness. Geez, you are showing your inner Cub!!!

So here's the formula:

1. Over-indulged, over-entitled, immature man-boy athlete posts something stupid on the net because, well, that's what people do on the net.

2. The subject of the stupid post takes offense and posts something equally stupid, but he's the injured party so it's ok.

3. Man-boy issues insincere, canned "non-apology", ghost-written by the team's publicity department. Team makes sure news media sees the non-apology.

4. News media dutifully reports the non-apology in a non-news story.

5. Suckers like me get sucked into reading the non-story.

6. Repeat as needed.

Garza was not on my radar, he was a good pitcher in Tampa but i still never payed any attention to him until i heard his comments last night , he became one of my favorite players because it was funny, then i thought to myself,  how long until he apologizes , just one day so i guess Garza you are off my list.

Garza is right about one thing... these women keep running their mouths while they leave their men to handle the consequences, frankly it's are a slap in the face to their husbands, public disrespect..

What happened to the days when women stood besides their men and NOT IN FRONT OF THEM always making sure their husbands were seen in the best public light.  These women have nothing better to do than run their mouths, being privilege tends to do that, with no house to clean, meals to cook every night, constantly driving kids around, and no full time jobs, i guess running their mouth has turned in a full time job between the drinking and surfing Facebook, nothing to do but go on twitter and babble about a game you know little about if anything

I always thought Garza looked like a dou.che. He just proved it with this.

Garza's a loser. Last time I checked bunting was part of baseball. Learn to field a bunt punk.

Read the tweets and read the apology statement.  Do you think the same person wrote both?

@danangsten The guy can't tell 'there' from 'their', he shouldn't be criticizing anyone for anything.

Huh

@John NoLastName Except that neither of the Sogards EVER responded to ANY of Garza's  misogynistic psycho babble, yet Garza continued to tag them in his comments, so they would be sure to see said comments. This was all Garza, letting his inner misogynistic psycho hang out for all to see.

@friendly--neighborhood--scrawler Really? What exactly did Kaycce Sogard say that would be considered "running her mouth"..."get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in"...seriously? that sounds like a wife who was happy to see her husband contributing to his team.

@ianforbes The guy clearly has no competitive spirit, just whiner.

@ianforbes I could understand if it was a 10-2 game or something, put squeezing in a run to make it 4-2 is not a problem. Garza should try doing something with his feet other than putting them into his giant mouth.
