Major League Baseball is preparing to slap Alex Rodriguez with a minimum suspension of 214 games, according to multiple reports.

The suspension would entail the remainder of this season as well as the next. The New York Daily News broke the news first on Saturday, citing a source who said the MLBPA reached out to the commissioner’s office early Saturday on behalf of Rodriguez but was rebuffed. Friday night after playing a  Minor League rehab game, Rodriguez suggested Major League Baseball and the New York Yankees — who still owe the third baseman the $100 million left on his $275 million contract — were working in tandem to keep Rodriguez off the field, which would void his contract for this season. Rodriguez hasn’t played with the Yankees this season because of a hip injury but is expected to join the team Monday against the Chicago White Sox.

It is believed Major League Baseball has ample evidence connecting Rodriguez to the Biogenesis of America anti-aging clinic, which is reported to have provided performance-enhancing drugs to a wide range of athletes, from professional baseball players to high school baseball players in the Miami area. Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has already been suspended the remainder of the season.

Rodriguez, according to media reports, has tried to negotiate a contract settlement with the Yankees, but the Daily News cites a source who said the Yankees declined.

FOXSports.com’s Ken Rosenthal reports Rodriguez will appeal the expected punishment.

214 games? That's it? MLB, I'm done with you. It's fairly apparent by the negotiations with others and not banning A-rod outright that the powers that be are not at all serious about cleaning up the game. I've bought my last season ticket, watched my last game.

Typical reverse racism-MLB never suspended Barry Bonds or put an asterisk next to his name because they knew al sharpton would whine

The Latino and white players are targets all of a sudden

Ban A-Rod for life and make the Yankees donate his salary to charity.  They deserve it after being dumb enough to sign him to that 10 year $275 million deal in the first place.

I don't understand all the drama to suspend a-rod!! Is he bigger than the game or are the Yankees bigger than baseball? He's getting off way too easy.

A slap on the hand for A-ROD. What about Pete Rose? It's time to forgive Rose for his mistakes. At least he wasn't all drugged up. And so what...it's human nature to make multiple mistakes during one's short life. Get it right for GOSS sake.

The only thing funnier than what a narcissist A-Rod is, is David Ortiz lecturing about how users should get punished!

Braun cut a deal and the Brewers had his back. He gets his $117 million. ARod won't cut a deal and the Yankees want to get rid of him.

The yankees are getting off WAY too easy in this deal. They should still be charged the luxery tax on his contract

If A-Rod sits out the rest of 2013 and all of 2014 could the Yankees just cut A-Rod altogether and don't spend another dime for the remainder of his contract?  Was all of that $275 million contract guaranteed?

Meanwhile the cheater who won an MVP two years ago gets 65 games? There's something wrong with this picture. What, did A-Ron own Biogenesis?

This guy is done, stick a fork in him.  Doesn't matter when he comes back..hes a shell of himself, and will never earn the rest of that ridiculous paycheck.

Memo to A-Rod: You cheated. You got caught. Take responsibility.

i don't understand why people only look at this through the prism of sports, only discussing how many games he should be suspended for. but if arod has done what they say he's done, he could be facing criminal charges. wouldn't that set an example?!

bigdinca

MLB should be fair about this, he deserves to be suspended but it should be the same for all. You cant make him the scapegoat when Bud Selig and MLB have allowed this for 15+ years.  The guy with all the "evidence is not credible. He reached out to players first to see if they wanted to buy it almost blackmail style and denied players were on PED until MLB started to show the money which has been reported to be over a million bucks. This has been a which hunt from day 1.  Braun lied just as much as Arod and both should get the same suspension

I remember back in the early 2000s, many fans and sportscasters were talking about Arod in the light of the McGwire/Sosa/Bonds et al hoopla. Arod was put on a pedestal for being a truly great athlete who played clean. At that time, I echoed the sentiments of the X Files' Fox Mulder, "I want to believe!" (Sigh). "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three or more times, and I am an absolute fool. Arod will rise again; he cannot be banned for life; he will miss a lot of games but will return long enough to pull all our chains. AROD WILL RISE AGAIN! WHY? BECAUSE SH** FLOATS."

This is for all you bashers. A-Rod deserves to be suspended just like Braun and the others. He's guilty of trying to be the best he can (although he used illegal substances). What a horrible crime. You idiots treat him like the guy in Cleveland who held 3 woman captive for 10 years. His crime is so minor compared with all the crap going on today especially with the Obama administration fiasco phony scandals and all their lying that to equate what he did with a lifetime ban is moronic. Every team, owner, management and the commissioner's office all knew this stuff was going on for years and turned a blind eye but you guys what to destroy A-Rod for trying to excel. I'm not defending what he did, it was wrong, but he should be fairly punished, not excessively. I hope he comes back and smashes the hell out of the ball and eventually gets elected to the HOF although I think he should have to wait 10 years as punishment for his transgressions. His numbers before PEDS are HOF and to take that away cheapens the game and it's history. How do you punish people for doing something that was either legal before it was illegal or was condoned and even supplied by their teams. Let's be fair and all you people who live in glass houses need to stop throwing stones. I'll bet the majority of you bashers have done or still do far worse drugs than A-Rod. Take a look in the mirror........

@rpbncb Rose unfortunately won't get his ban lifted! Look at Shoeless Joe who there was zero proof he was involved in the scandal. A-Rod should be banned for life.

JohnHill1
JohnHill1

@ngk11 Why??? That means EVERYONE that loses players to this scandal have an easy deal. The Yankees didn't say A-ROD take roids and PED's. A-Rod did that himself! SO they are not responsible for anything.

@HarshRealities They are responsible for all of the money that gayrod is owed when he is not suspended. Unless he is traded of course

JohnHill1

@Hub25 They also have proof he recruited others. A-Roid is a fraud and I WISH there was a way the Yankees could get out of the Boss's mistake.

@bigdinca I don't like A-rod either, but I agree that the whole thing is very high handed.  And A-Rod is right that MLB and the yankees are conspiring to get out of the rest of the money he's owed.  Let's get real, The Mitchell Report showed that a lot of organizations knew guys were using -- I find it hard to believe that the Yankees were floored about A-Rod (and Clemens and Petit and. .  .).    They should have to pay up and I say that as someone who hopes A-Rod doesn't play again.

@ARODFAN "His numbers before PEDS are HOF".

Ummm...first of all, you're either stupid or in denial.  Benefit of the doubt based on your name is that you're in denial and that can happen to anyone.

His admitted to using PED's all the way back to his early days with the Rangers.  His numbers were not HOF worthy at that point, he was simply on his way.

@ARODFAN  Another moron who somehow manages to bring Obama into this discussion. But then I forgot, Obama is to blame for everything, even A-Roid using PEDs. This is typical right wing radical thinking. Please WAKE UP!

ARODFAN, I empathize with you. Your user name says it all, and your remarks make much sense. But bro - dude - you've gotta get a grip here. Have a beer and put your feet up. Don't drink? Have a tall glass of iced tea. Breathe slowly in and out. Just be.Think good thoughts. Arod will be fine. He has enough money to buy an entire law firm. He's a big guy. He can handle it.

@JohnHill1 @ngk11 That we know of.  Yankees have had several players tied to steroids.  Where there is smoke, there is fire...despite what Yankee homers like to claim.

Thanks, psychprof. My "handle" betrays my age. The Gumpster was/is my all-time NHL hero. A great story of true redemption. 10 years dying with the hapless Rangers, then sent to the Habs who knew his true worth. 4 Lord Stanley cups! 4! I never could believe how he could be a living example of guts, perseverance, and yes, redemption at last. His story affected my life tremendously! By the way,are you really a psych. prof??? I'm a retired pastor and was/am a therapist. Long story. Always loved my work. Good to chat. Hope we keep in touch.

@GumpsterWorsley Thanks, I am good and very relaxed. I just can't stand people trying to crucify someone unfairly and there are a lot of them out there. I know he can live a grand life on the money he has but I truly believe he loves to play and that's what drives him. Why else would he put himself through such public scrutiny if he didn't have pride in himself and a great desire to compete.

@joe6647 @ARODFAN Technically I am not sure the investigation was ongoing at the time Rodriguez is alleged to purchased or attempted to purchase documents.

ARODFAN
ARODFAN

@1cubfan2002 @ARODFAN I don't believe he did them so long because if he had he would have turned into a behemoth like Bonds and McGwire. They became monsters in size while A-Rod looks like he has all along except for normal growth as one ages and matures. Beside that you can't find someone guilty of what they might have done.

JohnHill1
JohnHill1

Well MLB is the Yankees farm system but two actual fails in their "farm system" and one's a Mariner now.

JohnHill1
JohnHill1

@salvaje50 @JohnHill1 @ngk11 Two Yankees! Remember there's a list of at least 12 looking at bans. No one knows who is on the list. Ortiz has a lot to do with it, and now he is running his mouth about users  and he's one of them.  And of course they were big names because they juiced. Ortiz, Manny, A-Rod, Clemens, Pettitte (even MLB acknowledged) bought and used it one time. But there have been  A LOT more failed Sox users than Yankees. So there must be a five alarm fire in Boston.

salvaje50
salvaje50

@JohnHill1 @salvaje50 @ngk11 What does Ortiz have to do with multiple Yankees being linked to steroids?  Typical Yankee fan, always bringing up the Red Sox to take heat off off of them.  Like I care about the Red Sox.  This article is about A-Rod and the Yankees.

JohnHill1
JohnHill1

All the "Yankees" (but a few farm system players) came to the Yankees. The Red Sox had more failed players than the Yankees. The issue is The Yankees players were all big names. The Red Sox were just Manny and Big Papi, and a ton of nobodies.

JohnHill1
JohnHill1

@salvaje50 @JohnHill1 @ngk11 Yeah they were and all were recruited by Clemens and his trainer. A-Rod has been doing this for LONGER than he was a Yankee and Clemens was prior to being a Yankee. The problem is even if you were a Yankee a short time, you're ALWAYS labeled a Yankee for life. Ortiz and a few Sox failed so then where there's smoke there's fire, right?

rbeane1956
rbeane1956

@JohnDThorpe @joe6647 @bigdinca Which means none of that "Evidence" would not stand up in a court of law as the defense would say it was fabricated. Now if they have UPS shipping documents to back the evidence up that would be different. But from what I have read all the evidence is from one guy that MLB coerced and bribed.

JohnDThorpe
JohnDThorpe

@joe6647 @bigdinca So when A-Rod buys the evidence, that's bad but if MLB buys it, it's ok? If A-Rod tries to pay off a witness that's bad, but when MLB extorts the same man with a million-dollar phony lawsuit, that's OK?

joe6647
joe6647

@bigdinca @joe6647 um, they have evidence of him texting the Biogenesis founder to try to acquire the records linking him to biogenesis so that he could destroy it.  The Biogenesis founder wanted a certain amount of money for the evidence and A-Rod wasnt willing to pay up.

A-Rod is also linked to buying PEDs from the guy since 2009.

MLB bought the records off the Biogenesis founder and will now use it against A-Rod.  The same evidence that was used against Braun.

If none of the evidence was true, then why did Braun cave in to MLB and accept his suspension

GumpsterWorsley
GumpsterWorsley

The truth is I'm not a Yankee fan, but I've always had a soft spot for Arod. All the twistings and turnings of the Biogenesis PED mess seem like too little, too late anyway. When I calm down (as I advised you to do) the truth here seems to be sorely lacking for public scrutiny. Selig comes off as being in bed with Yankee management. Before this MLB season began, articles were written about how Steinbrenner Jr wanted to initiate an austerity campaign in terms of dumping big salaries and hiring players on the cheap. Funny how Arod's salary was seldom mentioned then, but now that he seems to be linked to the Fla clinic, Arod has become a pariah to the Yankees. What on earth could all this really mean??? Salary dump! Get rid of Arod forever and get rid of his huge salary. And let's remember that Selig works for the owners. Arod's only real hope is the Player's Association and what legal forces he and they can muster. There is NO WAY he can be banned for life. NO WAY! This is all about smoke, mirrors, a BIG salary dump for the Yankees and saving face for a very unlikeable MLB commissioner. OK. I'm done with my rant. Time to chill.
