The only thing stopping the Philadelphia Eagles from cutting Riley Cooper is the season-ending injury to fellow wideout Jeremy Maclin, Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk reports.

The Eagles announced Friday that Cooper was excused from all team activities as he seeks counseling. Cooper was caught on video making a racially insensitive slur at a security guard during a July concert.

As Florio notes, the loss of Maclin leaves the Eagles thin at wideout, with DeSean Jackson, Jason Avant and Cooper the only proven commodities. In the last four NFL drafts, the Eagles have spent only two picks on a wide receiver, one being Cooper and the other being sixth-rounder Marvin McNutt in 2012, who didn’t catch a pass last season. Maclin suffered a torn ACL in training camp.

Cooper’s absence, writes Florio, “gives the Eagles a chance to see who’ll step up and/or who else they may bring in before making a final decision on Cooper.”

He is far from being a "star" player. All I know is, if things start to go South this year for the team, look for this issue to linger. The soulless company that is nike says "winning takes care of everything," we will see.

@ngk11 The Eagles said nothing.  The website and writers of this article just made it up.  There is no quote from the Eagles.
