Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick says the team has forgiven wide receiver Riley Cooper for using a racial slur that was caught on tape, the Los Angeles Times reports.

“He apologized for what he did, and as a team we understood,” Vick said. “We all make mistakes in life and we all do and say things that maybe we do mean or we don’t mean. But as a teammate, I forgave him.”

Cooper apologized to the organization and was fined an undisclosed amount for a racial slur he said while attending a June 9 concert at Lincoln Financial Field.  Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement that the team was “shocked and appalled” by Cooper’s words and that “sort of behavior or attitude from anyone has no role in a civil society.”

“I just spoke to Riley inside the bubble during the walk-through for about 15 minutes,” Vick said. “[Coach Chip Kelly] allowed me to say a few words to the team. He allowed all of us to have open dialogue for five minutes on how we wanted to move forward. I think we cleared the air. We all have an understanding that the most important thing for this football team is to move forward as of right now.”

There is no NFL locker room where everyone likes everyone else.  That just isn't reality.  They know they are going to have teammates that they would never hang out with outside of the team activities.  It is just part of the deal.  Of course they will all get over him exposing the racist side of himself.  As long as he makes plays on Sunday.

Wow. The guy who tortured and needlessly murdered innocent animals forgives a guy who said the N-word. I'm sure Vick's fine, but that locker room is filled with guys that maybe won't be so okay with this.

In the Bible (it's an old book) Jesus tells us, in John 8:7,  'he that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone (at an adultress). It is nice to see so many folks here who are without sin, the ones who are falling all over themselves to 'cast stones' at Michael Vick. But, then, maybe none of them are Christians. That would make sense.

Your fake forgiveness is meaningless Vick... facking psychopath.

I doubt if it much matters who says what about forgiveness. When Cooper is on the field he will be a marked man.  I see a multitude of hits coming his way. Cheap, late, or just a little harder than usual, he will be getting clobbered. And he can apologize all he wants and that won't change. There are few viler insults in America today and I'm pretty sure he will be finding out the price of using it all season long. I, for one, don't feel all that sorry for him.

You know, nothing for nothing, but I could care less what Vick thinks about anything. The guy is a sociopathic piece of crap. Of course he is going to go on about forgiveness, he would not be in the league without people forgiving. Some white trash reveals his white trash feelings and now we have to see what the black trash's view is? Is this Jerry Springer?

Read the statement again. Vick is saying two things (very different from what the reporter suggests):

1. Vick forgives Cooper as a "teammate." That is very different than saying he forgives Cooper. Basically, Vick is saying that he does NOT forgive Cooper as a man, but for the good of the team he will put it aside and forgive him as a teammate.

2. Vick is not accepting Cooper's explanation (ie whether he mean it or not), but he is not outright rejecting it (for the good of the team).

I am no fan of Vick, and I am not weighing in on the apology. I am just saying that there is bad blood. The apology is only kinda sorta accepted. And to the extent that Vick is representative of the team (I really don't know on that count) this is not over, but is also probably not going to be the end of the world.

Riley is HOT, we should forgive him! He's so purdy!

Notice how Cooper talked stuff from inside the fence where he was safe.

Nobody was stopping him from jumping.

Just another in a growing number of gutless cowards.

Vick has more class than most of you racist peckers will ever have.

oh thank you vick for being the humane person and having to get on the soapbox to say how humble you are.

Well, Vick of all people should accept any and every apology presented. People forgave him.

@BillCampbell Not all Christians abide by the teachings of Jesus, or have you not noticed that?  Certainly there are people here that are not Christian.  I would say that is a safe guess. Odd that you are concerned about the stones thrown toward Vick but not those thrown toward Cooper.  Vick was a part of a heinous criminal enterprise, Cooper said a racial slur.  Big difference.

@6marK6 you saying "black trash" just automatically killed whatever point you were trying to make. don't stoop down to the levels you are accusing people of.

@BillCampbell Yeah it takes a TON of class to fight dogs, then drown them when they are of no more use to you.  Fack off Bill Campbell. Your generation were the real racists.

@BillCampbell Please give me an example of his class. And not some trivial thing that is agent wrote for him. I am waiting, tell me about his class.

@WHO*IS*ESPN

Vick said what he said on the idiot Cooper because many people forgave him for torturing those poor dogs.

What Vick did was sick, but he is apparently a different guy now.  Let it go.

@Hola - From the looks of some of these messages, not everyone has forgiven him. Lots of perfect folks around, I guess.

BillCampbell
BillCampbell

@randomdeletion @BillCampbell - You can argue with the Bible if you wish. I will not. I am not concerned with or talking about racial slurs, I am talking about forgiveness. Big difference.

6marK6

@ITATTRACTS @6marK6 If I refer to some white people as trash, I have to be able to refer to some black people as trash as well. That is being objective. And sue me, I do think that every race as members that are trash. If you do not think so, I admire your outlook.

BillCampbell
BillCampbell

@TeamCropDusters @BillCampbell - And now, you have not only failed in guessing my real name or picture, but you have failed in guessing my generation. Not everyone in YOUR generation is as ignorant as you are. I could be from your generation.

BillCampbell
BillCampbell

@6marK6 @BillCampbell - What? Are you awake? Isn't what he just did for Cooper  just a little bit classy? He could have taken the easy path and flamed the racist fires by attacking Cooper as 'whitey', etc., which is what the black 'leaders' like Sharpton, J. Jackson would do. Wake up. You can't see the forest for the trees. Vick does lots of work for charities, gives time and money, even to the SPCA, for whom he is a spokesperson. This is all public knowledge, which you can easily find for yourself, if you really want to. But, you don't really want to, do you?

BillCampbell
BillCampbell

@Blinker @BillCampbell - You are one of the bozos I was talking about. Fact - Michael Vick has never killed a dog. You are an unmitigated, bold-faced liar if you say that he has. He funded a dogfighting operation, was convicted, served his time, but he was never accused by anyone other than racist m***erf***ers like you of killing a dog. You just heard that from other racists and are just passing it on.

@BillCampbell  Huh?  Where did you get the idea I was arguing with the Bible?

I was pointing out how you were concerned with forgiveness for Vick but not for Cooper.  I understand forgiveness and think both deserve it and have received it. Not by all, but all will not agree on anything.

BillCampbell
BillCampbell

@TeamCropDusters - and, how do you know that the picture is really me, or that that is my name? You see, you have already made 2 false assumptions, and jumped to some idiotic conclusions. Just like you are doing with Vick. Speaking of the world being better off without someone, the loss of someone who forms and acts on conclusions without any facts wouldn't be a bad thing either, would it?

FYI, most people don't use their real name or photos on these websites, like I don't think that the white egg in the green square is YOUR photo, although it may be. And, I don't think that the name on your birth certificate is TeamCropDusters, but I am not going to bet on it. Or, jump to a bunch of crazy conclusions on my assumption.

Keep defending a psychopath you old piece of trash.  The world will be better off without you... very soon from the looks of you.

Facts are what you need to check if you believe he personally never killed a dog! Witnesses stated that he had killed dogs multiple times in any torturous ways. Those who do not know the actual dog side of the story are the ones who need to stop defending him. Research one of the men who was there rescuing the dogs that survived, Scotlund Haisley (not 100% on his name spelling). Vick personally drowned, electrocuted and stomped to death dogs that didn't perform to his standards. And I feel every time he doesn't perform to his fans standards he should get hooked up to a car battery and tossed in a swimming pool just like he did his dogs! And I am not racists, I am however for protecting defenseless dogs. And his cash donation may have bought him a dog endorsement from the HSUS but that doesn't excuse what he did! He went to jail for tax evasion and gambling, served not one day for what he did to those defenseless dogs, so his opinion doesn't mean jack to me and many others who not only love football, but love our dogs too!

BillCampbell
BillCampbell

@randomdeletion @BillCampbell - You are right, you do not recall all the facts, maybe not any. Go and look it up, it is a matter of public record. He was never accused of killing any dogs himself, nor did he ever say that he killed any dogs. But, it makes a greater impact on people who do not know the facts when you say the he killed dogs. That gets more people riled up, and it seems that many folks just like to stay riled up these days.

randomdeletion

@BillCampbell  I don't recall all the facts of the case, but I do recall that Michael was accused and charged with participating in some of the actual murders of the dogs.  I fail to see how anyone can presume he wasn't at the very least present when this was happening.

BillCampbell
BillCampbell

@ITATTRACTS @BillCampbell @Blinker - You need to get YOUR head out of YOUR butt, weenie. Just say what you mean. Just say that Vick bankrolled a dogfighting operation. That is indisputable. But, that is NOT the same as saying or implying, as you did, that he actually killed dogs.  You need to go back to school. Words mean things. The Germans would love your analogy of comparing Germans to dogs.

ITATTRACTS
ITATTRACTS

@BillCampbell @Blinker and Hitler never actually killed anyone right? if you fund an illegal dog fighting operation, dogs are being killed, on your dime. get your head out of your butt and stop playing semantics to defend his actions.

@doublejtrain68 @pcwhite2 @WHO*IS*ESPN "Old news" huh? Is that the ADD world we live in now? Bro, it does not matter what has happened, move on. Let all the convicts out of prison, everything they did is old news.
