One requirement of a quarterback on any level of football is to know how to throw.

Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor said yesterday that he is starting to get that concept down, and didn’t know how throw the ball correctly until working with the Raiders coaching staff.

“I never really knew how to throw a football before,” Pryor said Sunday, according to the Bay Area News Group. “It’s coming along. I’m getting way better. I probably missed four or five throws out of 80, 85 throws today. I might ice my arm as a precaution tonight, but it feels great.”

New addition Matt Flynn still remains the odds-on favorite to win the starting job this season. Pryor did see extended action at the end of last season, completing 13 of 28 passes for 150 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception in a 24-21 loss to the San Diego Chargers.

“He’s worked extremely hard at it, and any time you get a talented player that works extremely hard, he’s going to get better,” Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said. “We’re doing some things with him to try and take advantage of his talents. He’s responding to that.”

As a Steeler fan of this kid from Pittsburgh I hope he does well as long as he doesn't beat The Steelers.

I am not surprised by this at all. Disappointing how many guys get to college and have sh*tty mechanics. (VInce Young anybody?)

Jim Tressel knew about this 9 months ago and didn't tell anyone

This should be exciting for a lot of Raiders fans.

Pryor has a reputation as an arrogant prima donna. He's been able to get by on his natural talent for years. That he is willing to work on his throwing mechanics to improve as a QB and a football player is encouraging. The maturity is something that few of these college stars come into.

Although I'm a Wolverines fan and hate everything Ohio State, I wish Pryor the best. I'm a fan of hard work.

That does not really build confidence in a lot of Raiders fans.

For crying out loud!  My 13 year old son is smart enough to find throwing tutorials on youtube! Now wonder my boys in black are laughing stocks.

At what point did he say he blamed his arm for his shortcomings? This kid is saying he needs to work in his arm and is admitting his flaw. Nothing wrong with that. You don't need to make this not something it isn't by saying this is an excuse, your just fishing for reasons.

Seems like an honest and coachable  kid who is willing to admit he can improve his game and then work at it. Hope the game doesn't change that.

I never knew how to throw a football?  Really?  It's just making an excuse as outlandish as possible in order to blame someone else for your shortcomings.  Remember the Lakers last season claiming they didn't know how to play defense?  "No one has ever coached us."   You cannot be serious.

Flynn will not get the start. Pryor can run Flynn can't. Teams want either Cam Newtons or Rogers. Pass like crazy or run like crazy. Flynn can do neither.

Really? Pryor should have just kept his mouth shut.  Now I'm convinced he really is a fool.

Only the dysfunctional Raiders draft a QB who doesn't '[know]how to throw a football'.

@ReardonSteeleIn defense of the Raiders, they do a lot of dysfunctional things, so this one thing should not surprise or anger you at all.  It's just the Raiders doing when they do (cluelessly).

He's talking about his mechanics. Just as is the case with Tim Tebow, some people were never taught how to CORRECTLY throw the ball.

@EasyGoer Exactly correct. I was a Master Mechanic and can remember a time a young kid showed me how to remove a cylinder liner with only a hammer, stick and a fire extinguisher. I would have been a real dumba** to ignore instruction from a guy who obviously knew something I did not. Pryor has said he was not properly coached and has learned something. Nothing wrong with learning even at this late stage...the same might happen with Tebow, who knows?
