Los Angeles Lakers point guard Steve Nash will tryout of Inter Milan before the soccer club partakes in the Guinness International Champions Cup, according to an Associated Press report. Nash will take part in tryouts being held in New Jersey before Inter Milan opens play in Indianapolis against Chelsea.

Nash, an avid soccer fan, is part of the ownership group of the Vancouver Whitecaps of Major League Soccer. His father, John, played professional soccer in South Africa and England.

Nash said he expects to be 100 percent healthy for the upcoming season and said he’s “excited” for another opportunity with the Lakers. Nash scored 12.7 points with 6.7 assists in 50 games with the Lakers this season.

Nash commented on his tryout with Inter Milan:

“It’s a dream come true to get a chance to try out, not just to try out but to take the field with Inter Milan, one of the great, storied franchises in professional sports,” Nash said in an interview with the Associated Press. “I feel like a little kid.”

There are places Nash could play whose fans don't hound black players with racial slurs. Great opportunity to send a message that you don't have to be black to really care about an atrocious situation. wonder what his co-workers think about his choice?

Too bad Nash was never as pumped about representing the Canadian National Team in international competition - it seems he gave that up when he became an NBA superstar.  Can find the time to play soccer in the off-season, though.  What a phony.

Yep, waited until his 40s to try out for one of the best soccer franchises in the world.

So coming off a leg injury, Nash is going to do something that has a possibility of leg injuries. Sounds good to me!

Guess the Lakers are really just mailing this season in.

@purvy Nash played for the Canadian national team while in College in 1993. He also led the team in the 2000 and 2004 Olympics. He's now the GM for the national team. It's pretty safe to say he represented his country well. Get your facts straight before you look like an idiot troller next time.

@NoThanksESPNFacebook Well, seeing how Kobe Bryant rehabbed with Inter Milan's crosstown rival AC Milan, maybe it's what management wants.
