Pirates closer Jason Grilli won’t need surgery for arm injury
Grilli was seen by team doctors as well as Dr. James Andrews and will need a rest period before starting a throwing program. The team also said that Grilli will be re-evaluated in the next 10-14 days and that an estimated return date will be better clarified after a follow-up exam.
Grilli was injured during the ninth inning of Monday night’s game against the Washington Nationals after having discomfort in his forearm. The team then placed him on the 15-day disabled list.
Grilli, 36, has a 2.34 ERA and leads the National League with 30 saves.
