Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp on DL for third time this season
It’s Kemp’s third trip to the DL this season and he is eligible to return August 6. The team activated left-handed pitcher Ted Lilly to take Kemp’s roster spot.
Kemp missed 11 games with a sore left shoulder and came off the DL before Sunday’s 9-2 win over the Washington Nationals.
He was 3 for 4 with a home run in that game, but limped off the field after sliding into home plate on a force play in the ninth inning. He has not played since.
Kemp has only played 62 games this season, and is batting .263 with five home runs and 27 RBI.
“That thing just didn’t go anywhere for us,” Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said. “We were hoping over 48 hours it would get a lot better. It hasn’t. After listening to (Dodgers medical director Stan Conte), he wasn’t 100 percent sure. I think we’re hopeful of that. We’ll see.”
