The University of South Carolina is investigating whether defensive end Jadeveon Clowney has been in contact with agent and entertainment mogul Jay-Z.

South Carolina Assistant Director of Athletics for Media Relations Steve Fink confirmed the school’s compliance office is performing a “standard operating procedure” to NFL.com.

An Inside the League report said Clowney was in “regular contact” with Jay-Z about signing with the rapper’s Roc Nation Sports agency — but did not list a source.

An Instagram account attributed to Clowney posted a link to a report on South Carolina’s investigation and “You kno [sic] we about to turn up. Dream coming true.” It has since been deleted.

Jay-Z’s role with the Roc Nation Sports agency and his recruitment of players from other agencies has come under scrutiny. In June, Roc Nation Sports reported Jay-Z was licensed to work as an MLB and NBA agent. The NFLPA also probed Jay-Z’s recruitment of Jets rookie quarterback Geno Smith.

Clowney, a unanimous All-American selection after a record-breaking sophomore season with the Gamecocks, is considered a possible No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

During SEC media sessions, South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier told ESPN’s Chris Fowler Clowney was well-educated on the NCAA’s rules regarding contact with agents.

From NFL.com:

“All of our conversations (with Clowney) are wait until you have played your last game at South Carolina,” Spurrier said. “When the bowl game is over this coming season he’s free to accept any amount of money anybody wants to give him. But until then he has to be a student-athlete like all the other guys or he’s not going to be eligible. He’s done a good job of knowing that.”

They should investigate his dad's weekly "guaranteed winnings" poker game.

Good news for Clowney is that Bradford sat out his sr year and still went #1 in the draft.  The only bad news is for S C fans who might not get to see him on the field again.
