Detroit Red Wings head coach Mike Babcock has been selected to coach Canada’s Olympic men’s hockey team, according to a Sportsnet report.

Babcock’s staff will include the St. Louis Blues’ Ken Hitchcock, the Dallas Stars’ Lindy Ruff and the Boston Bruins’ Claude Julien. It’s the same staff — with the exception of former Edmonton Oilers coach Ralph Krueger — that coached Canada to the gold medal in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

MUIR: Canada will have talent in Sochi

Canada was placed in Group B along with Austria, Finland and Norway. Canada is scheduled to open the Winter Olympics men’s hockey tournament in Sochi, Russia on Feb. 13 against Norway.
