Report: Former Kentucky forward Kyle Wiltjer to transfer to Gonzaga
CBSSports.com says that Wiltjer’s father told the website it was a done deal. In the report, he said that his son will head out west to play for the Bulldogs. Wiltjer will sit out this season and be eligible in 2014-15.
Wiltjer announced last month that he was leaving the Kentucky basketball program after two seasons with the school.
Wiltjer, a 6-foot-9, 239-pounder, was a Top 25 recruit coming out of Beaverton, Ore.
He averaged 4.8 points a game during his freshman season, which saw Kentucky win the national championship. Last season, he averaged 10.2 points and 4.2 rebounds a game.
He said in a letter that he recognized that he has ” new and adjusted goals” that required him to make some very difficult upcoming decisions.
“I told Kyle I’ll play whatever part he wants in his transfer, whether that’s being involved and calling other schools on his behalf or not being involved in any way. He expressed to me that he needs my help and advice, which I will give,” Kentucky head coach John Calipari said on his website.
