Mike Dee named Padres CEO and president
The San Diego Padres took to Twitter on Wednesday to announce the team is bringing back former executive vice president Mike Dee to be its next CEO and president.
The news comes a week after the Padres’ former CEO and president Tom Garfinkel stepped down after four years in his post. The team is currently 42-54, good for last in the NL West.
Dee has a total of 15 years of experience working in baseball, including seven years with the Padres from 1995-2002. In 2004, he was promoted to COO of the Boston Red Sox. Most recently, Dee was CEO of the Miami Dolphins and Sun Life Stadium.
The Padres’ Scott Marshall, who serves as vice president and concessions and retail, said Wednesday the hiring is a perfect fit, and remembers the immediate success Dee experienced when he first came to the franchise in 1995:
“I honestly believe there’s no better candidate than Mike Dee. His energy and passion are unmatched. He’s committed to three things: to a championship, fan engagement and community. When Mike came here in 1995, he got to our market, which is dynamic and unique, very quickly. He’s an incredible innovator. His attention to detail is phenomenal.”
