The Los Angeles Clippers are close to signing free-agent center Byron Mullens to a two-year contract, reports Yahoo! Sports.

The deal would include a player option for the 2014-15 season and is set to be finalized sometime this week. The Clippers have already added J.J. Redick and Jared Dudley this offseason as well as re-signed point guard Chris Paul.

The Los Angeles Lakers were one of several teams to pursue Mullens.

Mullens, who can play the 4 or 5 position, spent the last two seasons with Charlotte Bobcats and averaged 10.4 points and 6.4 rebounds in 2012-13.

THOMSEN: Busy offseason shows these are not the Clippers of yore

Mullens was a first-round pick in the 2009 draft and in four NBA seasons, including two with the Oklahoma City Thunder, he has averaged 8.4 points and 4.8 rebounds a game.

Unless their frontcourt starts shooting better from the line I can't see this team beating the likes of San Antonio, OKC, Golden State and maybe the Rockets.

@Fishfinsbottlesnbitches Good pick up very underrated player. Had him on my fantasy teams..He will be so much better with a winning team and a point guard like Paul. This guy can jump, shoot threes, pretty athletic, block shots and rebounds. They will now have a low post presence late in games when Jordan has to sit on the bench..If you have not seen him play. He will surprise you this year...Why hasn't OKC made any moves, since they lost K Martin?

I really like this! Great move for the clips. I think he would fit in nice with everyone. The dependability of the free throws late in the fourth are a must!

It would also have a great affect on DJ! Like NOT starting! Not only is he going to come back better than ever because....well DJ loves LA! His underachieving almost landed him ... someplace else! I'm Sure Mullens wants the starting spot.  Lets see if DJ improved his post moves and free throws this offseason. Because if he didn't, he might not keep it!
