The Miami Heat may be ready to use their new-found luxury tax break to make a run at free-agent center Greg Oden.

Chris Tomasson of FOX Sports Florida reports Heat president Pat Riley has resumed talks with Oden’s agent, Mike Conley. The report comes on the same day the Heat announced plans to use their amnesty clause on veteran forward Mike Miller. The Heat reportedly will save $17 million in luxury tax payments by dropping Miller.

The Mavericks, Pelicans and Spurs have also been linked to having interest in Oden, with the Cavaliers dropping out of the chase after signing Andrew Bynum last week.

Conley reportedly told Tomasson that Oden is very interested in the Heat but will likely take a few weeks to make his decision.

Oden, 25, is making a comeback from multiple knee injuries that have limited him to just 82 games since being selected No. 1 overall by the Trail Blazers in the 2007 NBA Draft. He hasn’t played in an NBA game since in more than 3 1/2 years.

It is hard to think Oden can last, but it would be a nice comeback story and his AAU teammate turned columnist Mark Titus speaks of his as a nice, nerdy guy (pre-inappropriate tweet).  Miller did some great things for the Heat and I wish him well, despite rooting against the Heat.

Anyone who signs Andrew Bynum or Greg Oden is a complete idiot who gets off by throwing huge piles of money down the circular file. Where is there any evidence that Oden can play? Has he done any Summer League play or even a workout that has been recorded? If he had value, guess who would know? The Trailblazers and they want nothing to do with him. But nothing changes you see the same coaches who proved they couldn't coach in the NFL get chance after chance, despite all evidence they get rehired, anyone want to guess who hires Norv Turner after he does a year or two work as an offensive coordinator? Neither Oden or Bynum will play even half a season, in the future.

Hopefully Oden is one of two big men Miami will bring in, No way can they only count on Oden. Again this wouldn't be the case if it was up to that idiot Riley,  He was forced to amnesty Miller's... 30 million dollar hit, Pat's would have kept Millier if not for the owner, so i have no confidence in Pat making the right choices going forward. 2014 can't come quick enough for Lebron. Pat will lose Lebron in 2014 because Pat as dumb as he is will be focusing on keeping James instead of Building a good team around him, its been 3 years in Miami and each year Lebron has been ask to do more and more

The heat should just put a pile of money in their parking lot and set it on fire, it will have the same effect. This guys knees are made out of peanut brittle and he looks 50. He also picked up the fun habit of drinking himself into a coma to add to his marketability.

It would be great to have him come back and be the feel good story of 2013-2014 but serious knee problems don't fix well the way other injuries do especially with bigger players.
