Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose says he will be ready for the opening game of the 2013-14 NBA season, according to a USA Today report.

Rose, who missed all of last season rehabbing from a torn ACL, says he is 100 percent now and he is “anxious” to play basketball again for the Bulls. Rose said he is mentally stronger than he’s ever been and he’s been talking to head coach Tom Thibodeau twice a week while watching film with him in preparation for next season.

The Bulls will play the first-ever NBA game in Brazil when they travel to Rio for a preseason game against the Washington Wizards on October 12. Rose is expected to log some minutes during that game.

Rose considers next season to be “huge” for the Bulls and thinks the team are “definitely contenders” for a championship. After last appearing in an NBA game on April 28, 2012, Rose said he doesn’t know how it would feel to be back on the court with his teammates.

Rose commented on his return in a USA Today report:

“I should be able to play in the first game of season,” Rose said. “I know I’m anxious right now to play. My health is everything right now, it’s 100 percent. But right now, the first game… I will definitely be playing it.”

Love all the people calling him soft who probably never had any kind of injury in their life let alone an ACL tear. It's not fun. I know there are injuries that are worse but when you go through the struggle to get back, all the time, all the effort, you worry about injuring it again and starting over. Unless you've gone through it, please keep your uninformed, idiotic responses to yourself.

He is a coward and will always be one to the people of Chicago.

nobody cares anymore.  the narrative is that the kid is freaked-out and he will for sure get hurt again.  he will take is guaranteed dough and live a fantastic life. bulls would do well to unload the kid and rebuild once again.  dude is a total head case....

MVP, every time i hear it and Derrick "girl scout cookie soft" Rose used in the same sentence i throw up a little.  He never deserved the award...That moniker is reserved for the person who won it 4 out of the last 5 years. Not for a guy that deserted his team in their most trying hour, the hour when teammates were giving their all, playing through injuries  and getting out of a hospital bed to take jumpers. While Derrick was taking it easy because he never felt 100% ...  it's easy to wear the moniker of a leader when times are good. But when times get tough true leaders are forged, not elected because they are the teams best player...
Every Bulls player should look at Derrick sideways going forward, if not they are losers like Derrick and will never win a ring together.

I hope he's 100%. I've never been a Bulls fan but I hate when a great player is unable to play.

No rush, Buttercup. Unlike the playoffs, the regular season is largely meaningless.

@smp351 All you have to do is compare to all the other athletes who suffered the same injury... he's taken way too long to come back.  I'm sure you are right and he was worried about it, just like every other athlete coming back from an injury, but that isn't a valid excuse... he is getting paid a lot of money to do a job, not to worry.

@Grandmaster Quite an accomplishment, taking the time to talk to every person in Chicago.  Are they all aware that you are speaking for them too?

@tfaw Are you insane? MWP is a head case, not Rose. Learn a few things before chiming in on a conversation

That's a bit harsh, who knows what he was feeling behind the scenes?  His team mates backed him up so that is good enough for me.  The guy is coming off several major injuries, he came back too soon last time and got hurt badly again.  The balance of power in the East and the Bulls' ability to contend hinges squarely on him.  If he plays a full season this year people should look back at his "decision" as being a prudent one.  With Derrick Rose on the court the Bulls have enough to get very close to MIA and could even beat them.  After all Wade's knees are one year more tired and worn

@BusterReal @smp351 I'm also speaking from experience as someone who is 5 months from having ACL, MCL, Meniscus surgery. It's just a long road that you don't want to repeat. It's not like breaking a bone and only cast it up, rehab for a month. Plus it's your knee. You think about it after EVERY STEP coming off surgery. I do look at it as a challenge as I'm sure Rose did as well. He'll be back and to his old self. I'm not a bulls fan but I'd want him 100 percent physically and mentally to start the new year. He could have played last playoffs and just mentally not be there which would then hurt his performance. He's young and you guys have him for years.

more like, CAPTAIN ROSE-PETALS... which is actually not a bad name, it's a step up from daisies and pansies

Do you seriously believe guys like Noah, Deng and others after the trying season they battled though will look on a guy like Derrick "girl scout cookie" Rose for strength

True but that's how i feel about Rose, in this day of media and social networking, if the guy had a torn finger nail it would be reported on and tons of poor derrick articles would be written... Derrick said it himself he was waiting on god, muscle memory and to feel right in his head... ie 100% Now does that sound like a guys suffering from hidden issues. One thing i love about these forums we can speak the truth as we see it and not kiss butt like members of the media does to stay on the teams and players good side.  I ask the media where does their loyalties Lie, with us the fans or the players.
