Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel was sent home from the Manning Passing Academy because he missed assigned meetings and practice sessions, apparently due to illness, reports ESPN.com.

There were several reports earlier Sunday that said Manziel was sent home by Archie Manning because of “partying” but camp officials said those reports were not true.

“Johnny Manziel did participate in some activities in the 2013 Manning Passing Academy as a college counselor/coach,” the statement said. “After missing and being late for practice assignments, Johnny explained that he had been feeling ill. Consequently, we agreed that it was in everyone’s best interest for him to go home a day early.”

Manziel, last season’s Heisman Trophy winner, was at the academy, held at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., as a college coach and counselor. He threw for 3,706 yards with 26 touchdowns and nine interceptions last season.

“I enjoyed meeting Johnny,” said Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning.  “I can remember a 20-year-old Eli [Manning] missing a meeting and catching some flak. We always have counselors who leave early. Johnny was great with the campers for the time he was here. He had to leave early. I wish him the best and I want him to come back as a counselor next year.”

Hmmmm, my guess it that the 2013 Johnny won't be as good as 2012 Johnny.

A 20 year old being hungover. I can't believe it. He's clearly not ready for the NFL. NFL players never drink or do drugs of any kind. They're never late for meetings. How can someone who has been drunk during the offseason possibly spot an open receiver or make a correct read?

Bad worm at the bottle of the tequila bottle. And Aaron Murray still had better QB stats. Unless the new SDM changed the classification, this guy has narcissistic personality disorder written all over him.

He's a 20 year old college student with amazing talent!  He's a small-town kid who's accomplished more on the football field than anyone could ever dream.  He's not a saint and regardless of what you might want to believe, no one with accomplishments like his is a saint.  Stop hating and begin taking this stuff for what it really is...exciting football!

The picture was taken just after TAMU beat OK in the Cotton Bowl...check the photo posted by TMZ on Jan. 13.  It's either a picture taken from the same night or someone convinced everyone to wear the same clothes they had on after the game.  Unfortunately, a lot of haters don't have anything better to do with their lives so they start crap on blogs.  It's a shame that so many people feed off belittling others.  I fell for it too until I Googled the Cotton Bowl pic.

There's pictures of him partying, in College Station, after returning from the camp. I guess he was miraculously healed. Texas A&M better get a handle on their QB, before they end up with their own Hernandez! Someone needs to bring him back to reality.

I bet it was the Sizzurp stuff that got him, just like JaMarcus.

Definitely a lot of Johnny Manziel haters here...Johnny's dad said he is at home recovering and the Manning camp released him because he was sick...not because he was hungover.  He lives his life in a fish bowl and would not be out partying after leaving camp.  Haters, channel your hate elsewhere.

If by "ill" you mean hungover, sleeping in through morning meetings, and being asked to leave by Archie.  Then sure, lets go with "ill."

The report I saw from fansided.com said there were pictures of he and AJ McCarron at a bar posted on Twitter.

Cover up for ill because he was partying too much the night before and was kicked out. They just said illness to protect his image a little bit.

Haha, "ill". That's a bit of a change from the initial report. Riiiiiight.

"Feeling ill" obviously being a euphemism for "having a hangover".

Manziel is a fantastic college QB, but it's becoming increasingly clear that he has no real NFL future.

Besides "Very few are saints" like the Mannings and Steve Young.  :)

@GIGator Big difference between Hernandez and Manziel...I wouldn't even try to compare the two.

Did you not see the pictures of him partying in College Station, after returning from the camp? He wasn't sick - he had a damn hangover, fool!

@sozo his history does not support your argument
